League Pass gives you a chance to hear other team announcers. The Lakers are just the latest to denigrate the Nets without giving praise where it is due. Like: "It should take Kobe about two seconds to realise he can just pump fake and go right past" Antoine Wright. A quarter and a half later, Kobe is 3-12 and "struggling." Um, hello? Then there's the typical critique of Carter (paraphrasing, "he was drafted very high and has never lived up to his potential"), and imagining the thoughts going on inside Malik Allen's head when Odom drove past him ("Coach, you told me he was quick, but NOT THAT QUICK!!!!" Odom is such a goddddddddddd). This on the heels ofone other team's announcers on this trip (don't remember which) openly laughing (actually openly guffawing, not just pointing out some misplay) at Boki's defense (OK, maybe it was deserved, but still, he's an NBA player, you don't laugh) and the Celtics announcers saying something very early in the game like"They just have to make the one additional pass and they'll completely break the Nets' defense down." There's homerism, and then there's being biased. The Nets announcers--all of them--don't hesitate to give credit to a good play by the opposition while still calling the game from a Nets slant. I often hear Marv saying something like, "that was a great play by [some opposing player]. Guys, it doesn't make you less of a man to give credit to all NBA players.

    I hate them all.

Thankfully, we seem to get the Nets feed whenever the nets play some team that doesn't broadcast in HD, which seems to happen a lot.

Yeah, YES 4 life. Other announcers are annoying, that's why I'm extremely thankful to have YES.

Well most of the other team's announcersroot for or are former players or former coachesof that team, so of course there is going to be some bias. They do games the way most of the people watching the game from that angle would do it. Why should they gear their broadcasts towards neutral fans or fans of another team, if the bulk of people watching the Lakers/Nets game with the announcers Dumpy indicted here are Laker fans? That's just the way it is.

At least you don't have to listen to the 76ers announcers say that the Sixers are "locking all windows and doors" when they play defense 82 times.

Ahaha yeah expect it, if you have ever watched the Raptors game with Chuck Swirski doing color commentary then you will see homerism to the fullest as he always overrates every player IMO on the team but he does usually give credit where it is due when it comes to opposing teams. The comment about Kobe driving past Wright really isnt being a homer, Kobe can drive past anyone he wants in the league when he wishes maybe hes just having an off day, the other comments I can see you point.

One commentator that got me a little pissed off was one of the Boston Celtics commentator during a pre-season game last season, I forget exactly what he had said but he just ripped the city of Toronto for not really knowing anything about basketball and that they better start winning because its a small basketball market...ah something along those lines.

YES hires neutral announcers. (Though they may play on the team, they still appreciate the game.) This also goes for the Yankees. (Though I wish Michael Kay would go away.)

Yeah Dumpy, I know what you're talking about. ESPN is a bit biased too, when it comes to certain players or teams. I remember watching Suns vs Nets last season, it's like everytime Nash dribbled, they would completely praise him. He would bounce pass the ball to Marion and all you would hear is, "Oh Nash with the beautiful pass!!". It was a solid pass, but nothing extraordinary. Then you have Kidd running down the court and hand out a no-look pass. What do you hear? The annoucers talking about the competition in the Western Conference. I try to stay with YES, they're wonderful.

FSN Bay Area is good with Warriors games. They are not biased at all. They praise the other team's star player alot.

well, that wasn't my point at all. Obviously, your audience is the fans of your team. However, there can be some balance--your players aren't all great and the opposing players don't all suck. When your team isn't doing something well, you should credit the other team or other players when it is warranted. I think that most basketball fans would like that.

because it was said one of the first times Kobe had the ball, I took it as a rip of Wright--"hey, we don't know anything about this guy, so he probably isn't good defensively"--yes, Kobe can score with three hands in his face, but so far, Kobe has yet to drive past Wright--Antoine has stayed between Kobe and the basket every minute Kobe has had the ball. The YES announcers don't hesitate to credit opposing defensive efforts.

The Lakers announcers aren't near as bad as some other announcers in the league. That one Celtics announcer is the worst. WORST. It sucks big time when league pass shows the Celtics feed.

Yeah, I was hoping that the YES broadcast would be on leaguepass but no, Lakers on FSN. I actually felt like it was just transparent after a while, they try so hard to make Bynum into a story, so yeah they had to give Sean some credit. I'm glad we won, up yours Laker Announcers. It was a close second half, but listening to those homers makes you feel like you're team's doomed!

yeah, whenever Bynum scored, they would positively shout something like, "Sean Williams can't get that one! YEAH!"or "Bynum's got long arms too!"

on the Wright thing, the announcers should have said something along the lines of, "Antoine Wright, a young player with a reputation of being pretty good defensively but with limited offensive skills. Well, he's going to have quite a test tonight guarding Kobe." Not, "Kobe should be able to torch this shlub in his sleep."

Miami used to be the worst but they were served a nice slice of humble pie with how they've started the season and are now somewhat tolerable. I like Phoenix, Golden State, New Orleans, and Memphis just off the top of my head. LA's pretty bad be it Clippers or Lakers and Boston is just downright laughable with Heinson's homerism. I am very happy we have Ian, Mark, and Marv who give a fair assesment good and bad during NJ games.
