QUOTE

Kidd's Criticism Helped Turnaround

Several teammates credited Jason Kidd with jump-starting the team, which had lost five straight going into the first game of the Western swing in Utah.

After Kidd's outburst at the morning shoot-around, the Nets got hammered by the Jazz, 102-75. At that point, few Nets knew what Kidd had said. But as soon as his words were printed in Tuesday morning's papers, they all got his point.

At 4-7, no one could argue with him.

"Every time the captain speaks up, and the guys know about it, it's like a wakeup call for you," said Bostjan Nachbar. "It was for me. And since then, everyone has stepped up." -- New York Daily News

Kidd should've just confronted the team himself, instead of going through the newspapers.
No need to do that, and his criticism would probably be more respectable and effective with him coming to the team personally.

i didnt think kidd did anything wrong. it isnt like our team always airs things out in the paper. we do keep things in house, but i think once in a while some players need a wakeup call and really step up. i actually liked that kidd made his comments publicly because when things are made publicly i think the entire team realizes more so that everyone needs to step up and prove themselves not to the captain but to each other.
sometimes i think we are too quite of a team and we dont really call out each other. i dont mean to go to the NYPost and call out someone, but just generally we need to call out each other sometimes. we see with Frank he will never do that and i think he babies our main guys a little too much. now i dont know what happens in the lockerroom, but from what i see i dont think he would call out vince publicly or jason or rj. so i think once in a while it is healthy to generally call out the team to get everyone focus and get on the same page. i dont want anyone going to the papers to thrown someone under the buss like saying well twin lost the game for us agains the hornets.
yes vince came back for us and has played very well, but i think the captains comments really hit home and made players recheck themselves and rethink how they are approaching the game and playing the game. whether its vince's return or kidds comments or both, lets hope the effect keeps going

At least he took some responsibility and didn't single anyone out.
But I think his play on the court and some weak opponents had more to do with the last three wins than his little tantrum in the paper.

All he does is baby the star players-Nads, Collins, Kidd, RJ, Vince-he lets them get away with too much at times.
And I believe it was the combination of Kidd's comments, Vince coming back, and a few relatively weak opponents that have gotten us 3 wins in a row.
One obvious player who was effected by Kidd was the main player quoted by Hunter - Boki. Before, he played like shit, offensively and defensively. Now, he's picked it up offensively, played well and smart...and I expect his defensive effort to pick up a bit now that he's pretty much out of his slump.

Kidd has never done this before. It's not in his resume to have ever called out a team. It's getting around the league now that we are winning. Memphis media has a little piece about it. Hey when Kidd talks people listen.
