Werder Bremen may be wounded, but they are always a dangerous opponent. They are currently last in their Champions League group, so they will do their best to earn a victory that could miraculously help them to qualify for the next round, or to earn the third spot, which would allow them to participate in the UEFA Cup.

Real Madrid will fight hard to take the point they need to reach the Last 16 round of the Champions League at Bremen's Weserstadion. The Whites are in a privileged position in their group thanks to their home victories against Bremen (2-1) and Olympiacos (4-2), and their away draws against the latter (0-0) and Lazio (2-2). After tonight's match, they will only face Lazio in Madrid.

Werder Bremen have lost three and won only one (against Lazio) of their games in the Champions League this season; they desperately need a victory against the Whites to either continue in the competition or at least to be able to participate in the UEFA Cup. Nevertheless, no one has scored as many goals at home as Bremen have in the European championship (22 strikes).

The German side is proving to be a completely different team in the European competition and in Germany, where they are having an excellent run in the Bundesliga.

Having played 13 games so far in the national championship, Bremen are currently second, only one point behind Bayern Munich, whose efforts aren't as great this year because they aren't playing in the Champions League. Bremen have taken 12 of a possible 15 points in the last few weeks and have won three consecutive encounters.

Their most dangerous player is striker Diego, but the Brazilian was sent off against Lazio and won't be able to participate in the match against the Madridistas. But Bremen have more problems: first keeper Tim Wiese, midfielder Torsten Frings and and Portuguese striker Hugo Almeida -all extremely important men- are injured.

On the other hand, Real Madrid won't be able to count on Heinze and Sneijder due to injury. Drenthe and Soldado have stayed in Madrid sick with flu. Nevertheless, Arjen Robben is completely recovered from his injury and has made Schuster's squad list. Pepe could also make his Real Madrid Champions League debut.
