QUOTE

Tension With Riley?

Stephen A. Smith reported that there was tension a few days ago in practice between Pat Riley and Shaquille O'Neal, that Shaq was mad because Riley did not surround him with good enough players to contend for a title and Riley told Shaq to leave practice and Zo (Alonzo Mourning) had to calm things down. What really happened?

Surround him? Surround him! At $20 million a season, O'Neal hardly has left much in the cap pie for anything in support. Yes, he did have words with Riley. And yes, it got heated. But that's also not unusual these tense days with Riley. For all of O'Neal's complaints about not getting the ball and not having support, there's nothing that's stopping him from attacking the glass and running in transition to find his own easy shots. If O'Neal thought he'd be worth the money at this stage, then he has an obligation to live up to that belief, through his efforts, instead of his words. -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel

It's weird having an NBA season where Shaq isn't the most dominant player walking the planet.
Wouldn't shock me in the least if Miami missed the playoffs this year.

This is exactly why the Lakers traded him. Shaq was demanding $30M to remain with the Lakers and still wanted the team to build around him. I don't think he understands the salary cap restrictions like most of these players. It makes it difficult to build a championship team when you have two players making max money.
What the Lakers got for him was a joke, but the decision to trade Shaq was the right one.
I wouldn't be surprised if Shaq is traded by Riley and the Heat focus their rebuilding efforts around DWade.
A trade to the right situation might motivate Shaq again. I think a trade to Dallas would work out for both teams.

How much does he really have left?
I can't imagine Miami just giving him away, but what kind of package could they get back for him at this point, considering hisage, drop off in numbers, and contract?
