Jackson Not Optimistic

The Lakers have lost five of their past seven games. Ronny Turiaf is woozy, Kwame Brown and Chris Mihm are hobbled and a couple of players are dealing with a mild case of the sniffles.

All things considered, the Lakers have seen better times. Anyone hoping for a quick turnaround, for a momentum-shifting victory against the dreadful Timberwolves tonight, won't be encouraged by the team's injury report or by what coach Phil Jackson said after Monday's apparently lackluster practice.

"I'm not optimistic right now," Jackson said. "I didn't like the practice today. I didn't think we practiced well today. We only had 10 guys and we were coming off a bad game. We tried to get some things accomplished, to grow as a basketball club, but I chided them about their energy this morning." -- Los Angeles Daily News

[*]Derek Fisher, one of the captains and veteran leaders on the team, prefers to look for positives.

"It's important to see an example of how you have to hold your composure, hold your poise," Fisher said. "Don't become desperate. Don't start flying off at the handle just because we're struggling a little bit right now." -- Riverside Press-Enterprise

Interesting comments to the media by PJax the last two days. IMO he's putting pressure for the management to make a move and give him more players to work with. Tough players and another big body is what he's angling for.

We should be able to beat the TWolves tonight, but after this game we face a lot of tough teams with contrasting styles. Without a healthy squad it could be a painful stretch of games up ahead.

We suck it up against bad teams usually, because we play down to their level. If we lose to the Twolves tonight, I expect changes. I would also brace for a Kobe Bryant ripping.

If that's the case, I want to lose tonight.
ANYTHING for management to understand that trades need to be made, and LO needs to find his way out of LA. I loved this guy in the beginning of last season and in the playoffs when we were up 3-1 to Phoenix. but otherwise, he has been a HUGE disappointment.

We've been pushing for changes for years now, and nothing has happened. I don't see how this season will be any different. Phil Jackson is not optimistic, neither are we. If your HOF coach is not optimistic about this roster, than obviously something is wrong. Too bad we won't do anything about it
