<div> link</p> The Marlins, stalled in their attempts to trade third baseman Miguel Cabrera, could be laying the groundwork for an even bigger deal.</p> </div> </p> The Marlins and Tigers are engaged in preliminary talks about a blockbuster that would send Cabrera and left-hander Dontrelle Willis to Detroit for a package of young players, according to major-league sources.</p> Outfielder Cameron Maybin and left-hander Andrew Miller likely are among the Marlins' targets. The Tigers already feature two veteran left-handed starters, Kenny Rogers and Nate Robertson, possibly making Miller available in a deal for Willis.</p> Cabrera would play third base for the Tigers. It is uncertain what would happen to the Tigers' incumbent third baseman, Brandon Inge, if a deal were completed; he possibly could be sent to another team.</p> The Marlins are at an impasse in their talks about Cabrera with the Angels. The teams are in agreement on three players the Marlins would receive, sources say — second baseman Howie Kendrick, catcher Jeff Mathis and minor-league pitcher Nick Adenhart. The Angels are balking at including right-hander Ervin Santana; the substitution of outfielder Reggie Willits possibly could lead to a deal.</p>
This is now being reported as a done deal... Apparently,Detroit will get Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from Florida for six players -- Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, catcher Mike Rabelo and three minor league prospects.</p>
Wow. This is a major move for the Tigers and possibly enough to put them back into the World Series.</p>

I think the Yankees were playing the Twins/Red Sox all along, they've shifted their attention to Dan Haren, who should be some what easier to acquire than Johan. I also think he's got a brighter future.</p>
True. But if the Sox deal goes through, they don't give up the 2 players they didn't want to in Buchholtz and Ellsbury. Theywouldn't havegiven up that much.</p>

Jesus God, what a trade. I can't believe the Marlins. The next time that any person associated with that organization says ONE bad thing about the way another team handles their business, it should be Federal law that said person be bitch-slapped with a shovel. I can't believe them. Say what you want about the crafty intelligence of trading big-name players for talented youngsters and not wasting money, but there's no stability at all within an organization that only acquires players to see them blossom and then dump them on someone else for another crop of kids that won't help for at least 2 years. The Marlins are like that kid back in school that was smarter than everyone else, so he just sat there and filibustered on every issue brought up just to prove how much better he was than everyone else, but that kid was also the one who never got invited to parties or anything. Yeah, maybe the Marlins have the smartest approach to things, but damn, you aren't going to gain any fans by running a team the way they do. Grow some balls, keep a couple of your outstanding youngsters, and build a franchise that actually has staying power rather than hoping you can keep winning one Series surrounded by five losing seasons when you happen to hit the jackpot with a young stud or two.</p> </p> The Tigers' lineup is significantly better than the Yankees, no doubt about it. They may have friggin Edgar Renterria, a Gold Glover who will hit .310/15/80/25 and probably 40+ doubles at Comerica....hitting in the 9 spot. Wow.</p>
How can you say that Haren has a brighter future than Santana's? That's lunacy.</p> And as a Red Sox fan, I'm looking over my shoulder now at Detriot. There's a lot of question marks but then there's a big guy with a bat ready to knock that question mark out of the park. This year should be a fun one to say the least.</p>
^ I wouldn't say Haren has a better future than Santana, but I like Danny just as much as Johan. Haren has tremendous movement on his pitches, and I think his ceiling has not yet been scraped. I really like him, and I hope the Yanks don't get him. If Santana is a 10, Haren could become a 9.5 at least. Plus he'll come cheaper in a trade. Give me Haren for a reasonable price rather than gutting my franchise for Santana any day.</p>
We get Santana, we're alright. Pitching beats offense, and Santana/Beckett/Matsuzaka/Schilling/Wakefield + Okajima and Papelbon at the end is a hell of a pitching staff.</p>

ER could hit 3rd (behind I-Rod), 5th, or 6th</p> If Inge is still around (LF is an unknown in the lineup above) he'll hit 9th.</p> The Tigers look phenomenal;If Zumaya gets back to 100% healthy then theAL is pretty much a done deal IMO.</p>
