Let's hope this is a real investigation and not a cover-up like the Patriot evidence burning. Could Roger Goodall have burned those tapes any faster? Has Goodall or the NFL offered any kind of description of what was on those tapes? Ask yourself thosequestions and then tell me if you feel confident that the NFL will really make an effort to get to the bottom of this incident.

The new topic is the NFL officials' provoking of Raven players in order to penalize the Ravens and protect the Patriots. The mentioning of the Patriots tape burning is back story to provide support for my argument that the NFL will simply try and hush this episode. Please try and keep up.

The fundamental problem I have with this theory is that I don't believe the NFL is nearly smart enough to pull it off.

How much is the NFL worth? How much is an individual franchise worth? These guys aren't as stupid as you might think. They have the green to prove it and a lot more green riding on the Patriots being perfect when the play the Giants on the final week ON THE NFL NETWORK.

Hopefully the NFL has more integrity than the NBA when it comes to matters with officiating.

The official didn't provoke anything, Rolle provoked it by making comments that the ref 'never played football'.

How can a player provoke an official? A player has a vested interest in the outcome of a game and is actually engaged in the playing of that game. An official is supposed to be neutral and keep order. Players can't help but become intense and emotional during a game. They are played to pay with passion. Officials are payed to keep order and don't have the luxury of becoming emotional. If that doesn't sound fair, that's tough. A lot of professions call for that. I work in a homeless shelter and we expect that homeless clients are going to be edgy and sometimes out of order. I've been cussed out and threatened lots of times. That doesn't mean that I can cuss or threaten back. I can be fired if I do. Sports officials need to keep their mouths shut unless they are giving direction or explaining an infraction. Even if Rolle said what you claim that he did, if an offical responded to that then he's out of line. If Rolle crosses a line, then penalize him. Otherwise, the official needs to zip his lip and act like a professional and keep order like he was hired to do.

If the refs are neutral why should players be allowed to curse at him and talk sh*t? Are you just condoning what Rolle did? Have you ever umpired or reffed a game? I bet you were always the b*tchy dude who was complaining to the ref about how wrong he was and you could do his job soooo much better.

I applaud the official for calling Samari Rolle "boy". Maybe he shouldn't act like one. The refs put up with so much shit, I don't know how they do it. Rolle is a joke for asking for a review.

I'm not so sure that allowing former players to become refs is such a good idea. Especially some mook who couldn't cut it at the NFL level, and ended up a ref!

See my avatar and you know what I think of the refs.

    Re: NFL To Review

Let me make it clear. EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT THE REFS WHETHER THEY ARE ON OR OFF THE FIELD. Look at Rivers for example. He always have something to say to the refs on a questionable call. I'm sure Brady does it too and I bet some of thsoe refs get an ear full by them as much as Rolle gave that ref on Monday. The refs are only to be neutral and thus penalizing those who cross the line just like Dale said. They always have the power to eject them with no questions asked rather than talking back.

You would lose money on that bet. I was never a good athlete, but my stepdad taught me good sportsmenship and that meant treating refs with respect. He was also a little league baseball umpire who always kept his cool and acted like a professional despite often facing boarish behavior from coaches and especially parents. One coach even chased him with a baseball bat. My stepdad never embarassed himself or anyone associated with him. Without twisting my words, my post was quite clear. I never said it was okay for athletes to act like idiots. I said that refs have to conduct themselves abover reproach no matter what the athlete does or he doesn't deserve to be an official. Period.
