Hi guys, I'm about to go to internship for my last semester of J(ournalism) school. Over the past semester (Sept. to Dec.), myself and a few colleagues have been working on a basketball magazine all about the game in our home province, Ontario. It is called, OnBall magazine.
We've done everything from researching to writing to laying out the mag and it has taken up a big part of my life over the last few months (and a big reason I'm not online talking with ya'll as much as I'd like to).
I will be using this forum (the Raps) to host our online content (I figured even if only a few of you read it, it's better than a dreamweaver site I could make myself). It'll take me a few days to figure out how to lay it out nicely (we took lots of pictures to along with our stories) but I can't wait to share my hard work with you. Our editor was an editor from the Toronto Sun and was able to help us a lot along the way, so hopefully the stories are pretty close to being professional quality (I won't speak for other but the articles I wrote have been requested for further publication).
So here's what you'll see; -A new folder called OnBall go up over the next few days. I appreciate any views and comments that we can get because I sure it would make me look good to my editors that I secured an active web site to host our stuff. - The articles are about basketball in Ontario, so with that in mind we explored: Scholarships to American and Canadian schools, wheelchair basketball, the WNBA and Toronto, small town ball, basketball injuries, HoopDome and many, many of issues that affect the game in our province.
I hope you all enjoy it. We just shipped it to the printer and I'll get right on the online stuff.

Wow, great job. I'm looking to get into Journalism at Ryerson, and become a Sports Journalist, can't wait to read your articles.

It's good to hear that a fellow future scribe is out there in Raptor land. IT's busy man I can tell you.
Take Saturday for example. I was up at 6:30 a.m. to be at the Variety Village Rolling Rebels (Canadian wheelchair basketball champs) practice for eight (I wanted to get there early to check out the lighting for photography). Interviewed the coach and a couple of players before taking about 70 photos of practice before I had to leave just before nine to to all the way to Bolton On. to shoot the Santa Claus parade for a website. Back to my place in Toronto around three for a 4:30 p.m.deadline on the VV piece. Got to the school around 8 p.m. to work on the community newspaper we publish, home around 11 p.m.. And that was a Saturday with no class (actually for the last two years I haven't had class just "labs" where we write, shoot and publish our stuff). But I love it. I know I'll probably have to move someplace far and cold in order to get my start but hopefully it doesn't pay too badly and I can pay off a bit of this student debt!
I can promise you this; you will never have a shortage of stories to tell at diner. I can fill dead like no one else. People know it's going to be a good story when it starts out with "so I was at the hospital doing a story on a fund raises initiative when this old man came out with his gown on backwards and ..."
Cheers

Wow, that is busy, sounds like your days a full. I'm starting to take classes in school, and co-op next year, but I have to find a place, I was thinking the Sun.
I'm sure you would have tons of stories, lol.
