What reality are we in that Atlanta has a functioning front office? [IMG]

Denny! Not the usual Kidd-rhetoric; you're better than that! Kidd supposedly is an old man every year, yet somehow keeps improving. He's got a lot of time left.

That Atlanta trade is so money, I'm inclined to email Megathron (who came up with that? its money) myself.

Vince for JJ would be AWESOME. Major upgrade on our part. IMO putting him with Kidd and RJ would be perfect.

I think you overestimate Kidd's abilities at this stage in his career. When he was younger, he did lead the Nets to the fnals, no? It's 4 years later and he is good enough to help the nets be .500. He's still a great passer and all that, but you might want to look at his career stats and his 2002-2003 season.

I got nothing against the guy, but to think Atlanta would give up Johnson for him straight up (if possible) is just insanity. Maybe if Johnson whined and complained about wanting out or something. Kidd's 34, and Johnson is EIGHT years younger.

Well hold on a second, do we want to look at his career stats or look at "Kidd's abilities at this stage in his career?" I think you nailed it on the head: the relevant stats are how he's performing now. 10/10/8. By the way he's reaching his career high in rebounds per game.

And yeah I think we'd have a hard time getting Joe Johnson for Kidd, mainly because they'd need a scorer to compliment him. That's why I leave him out of my proposal.

Kidd's also scoring 8 ppg less than his career best and shooting at his career worst from 3pt and 2pt range. I think these are indications of him getting older.

As for the rebounds, he's taking 'em all away from Jason Collins. Shocking!

    http://www.82games.com/0708/07NJN1D.HTM

The on-court/off-court points against numbers suggest his defense has declined as well.

    http://www.82games.com/0708/07NJN1C.HTM

His PER of 18.4 is down from 21.3 the previous season and 24.2 in that 2002-2003 season I mentioned.

I think he still is VERY good. He's not the player he was, and his age his definately showing.

Again, Johnson is 8 years younger and a bonafide star in his own right.

The situation that makes sense for trading Kidd is to a team with equivalent salary and that he'd be of immediate help to for the next 2-3 seasons, max.

    Edit:

For comparison, Johnson's PER is 17.1 and was 19.2 last season.

Anyone can shoot, or not shoot. You can't say that he's breaking down physically when his rebounding goes up. It's a more physical act and is a better sign of physical vitality.

As for the rebounds, he's taking them away from the other 9 people on the court, actually.

His rebounding going up is more an indication of the smallness of the Nets and how that's progressed over time. In spite of his great rebounding numbers, the Nets are the 5th worst rebounding team in the league. Kidd is getting about 2x more rebounds than anyone else on the team, and I can name at least two teams with TWO players on the same roster getting more rebounds than Kidd (Indy and NO) - which speaks to "taking rebounds away from the other 9 people on the court." That is, David West and Tyson Chandler each take more rebounds from the other 9 on the court (and each other).

And I'm sure everyone just lets him have those, its not like he has to expend any effort to get them right? :-)

I'd do this. Young promising players, that's what Nets need to ride to Brooklyn as a force in the NBA

The hawks are rebuilding, how would they trade all their young players for a veteran? No matter Kidd is a hall of famer, but he is not LeBron James.

Well if they do this trade they're no longer rebuilding. They have an opportunity to be a good team now.

But a championship team? Don't you unload most of your young talent, to become a conterder? ala Boston.

The only thing Johnson does better then Carter, is shoot. I'm not going to lie, when Carter wants to play, he scores points so easy. I know the key wotd is want, but if I was offered Vince for Johnson, and Vince was willing, I would do it.

This would be a good trade for the Nets but not ATL. I say Jason kidd has about 2 more season before he is done so he is not really bring anything to ATL. On the other hand Joe Johnson has atleast 4-5 more season so he could bring much more to the Nets than Jason Kidd could bring to the Hawks

Except when Carter, uh, quits on his team and forces them to trade him. Joe Johnson's got him beat on "not quitting on his team." And JJ freakin' plays in Atlanta. They're the 21st century Clippers.
