Hm. I might have to root for Miami next week. link Brian Billick reaffirmed that he will return as the Ravens' coach next season at today's news conference. "I'm going to be back," he said when addressing the future of the team. A team spokesman couldn't confirm whether Billick has been told by owner Steve Bisciotti that he will come back next season but indicated that Billick, Bisciotti and general manager Ozzie Newsome meet regularly. Bisciotti declined to comment yesterday, keeping to his policy of not talking to the media during the season. Billick's job status has been a hot topic during the Ravens' seven-game losing streak. He said two weeks ago that he was "confident" about coming back as coach, but he made his most definitive statement today. The Ravens made a strong commitment to Billick after he guided them to a 13-3 record last season, announcing that they signed him to a new four-year contract (which is believed to be worth $5 million a year). Because of the small number of pending free agents -- linebacker Terrell Suggs is the most notable one -- Billick said there won't be much change with this team next season. "For the most part, a majority of these guys will be back and that's a positive because there's a sense of, 'Let's do something now that's going to affect next year,'" Billick said. "So that's something we're going to work on going forward. That's what we hold onto." Billick added that Kyle Boller will remain the starting quarterback against the winless Miami Dolphins. Boller is coming off one of his worst games of the season, throwing for just 132 yards and three interceptions. Backup Troy Smith scored his first career touchdown with a 6-yard run in the final minute of the game. "Kyle is our starting quarterback," Billick said. "It was nice to get Troy in a little bit and get his feet wet. If that presents itself going forward, that would probably be a good thing. But our best chance to win going forward is Kyle Boller remaining our starter."

Billick was billed as an offensive genius when he was hired and has ended up overseeing one of the worst offensive teams in all of football.
He needs to go back to being a coordinator because he just can't run a franchise.

QUOTE (agoo101284)

If the Ravens know what's good for them, he'll be available.

Didn't Billick coach the Ravens to a World Championship? How many current head coaches have a Super Bowl Victory on their resume? I'm not a huge Billick fan, but you would think the guy is a bum to read some of these threads. Personally, I think the part of the failure to get quality offensive players has to fall on the GM, Ozzie Newsome. I wouldn't call Ozzie a bum either. Not when looking at some of the defensive players the Ravens have had over the years.

For me, I'm just at a point where I think he's had his time in 8 seasons as coach. He won a championship. There's just not enough progress onthe offensive side of the ball to warrant any more time since then. Whether, it's the offensive system, not good enough offensive players (and he's had some), inabiliy to develop a QB, and play calling. And despite that and the injuries this season, this team was good enough to compete. His play calling alone has costthe team3-5 games this season. Trying to get cute throwing the ball on short yrdage andgoaline situations and not running the ball enough. I'm just sick of the whole offensive futility as a whole and waste of quite a few great defenses in his tenure. It'stedious now. There needs to be some change already. Which may not happen, because of this and the fact that Bischotti signed him to a 4 yr deal after last season. I wanted him gone then. And Newsome has tried to upgrade the WR position a couple of times, when they had agreed to trade for TO and whole filework mixup, that wasn't a mix up(Agent never made a mistake). They had interest in Moss, who later admitted he wanted to come to Baltimore, but Vikings traded to Oakland instead out of nowhere.

There's only one possible brightside to bringing him back. And that's the fact that this will decrease the chance of drafting one of the top QBs in the draft. Billick might try a quick fix by adding a low risk/high reward FA QB. He'll have the pressure to win now since another bad season would most likely get him fired (if he doesn't this yr). And I'd prefer we don't get one of the top QBs, because I'm not high on any of them.
