"All filming at last year's Patriots game was done with pre-approval from the Patriots and in accordance with NFL rules," said Bruce Speight, the Jets' senior director of media relations.
PRE APPROVAL! No one ever pre approved taping in the manner in which the Patriots were doing it earlier this year. Not the Jet's, not the league, no one. The Pats crossed that fine line and that cheating is now forever recorded in NFL history.

There you go. I couldn't have said it any better than ROTR.

So you're buying into it all strictly because the Jets suck? Go back and read the videotaping rules I posted and explain to me how the Jets taping from the sidelines is legal. Sure, they say they are taping the action, but how do we know? Don't you even want the league to review the tapes?
All this does is prove what myself and others have been saying all along. All this "cheaters" and "conspiracy" stuff is done out of pure hatred and jealousy of the Patriots, and not because of some BS moral standards. Basically what you guys are saying is its alright to cheat if you suck, just not alrightif you're the Patriots.

Yeah exactly, they might have gotten aproved to film the game but who knows if they only filmed the game or used it to "spy" and film the patriots signals?
Only Mangini and his guys know that.
But I don't really care, all I know is that his team will get a whooping on sunday and he'll probably get fired when the season is over.
....and then come the helpless (d)olphins.......
(d) = no defense

The Jets didnt tape from the sidelines, they taped from the end zone....there is a difference....please consider some facts before saying stupid shit....
Dolphins....0 wins, 13 losses, Franchise's long history of integrity intact vs. Cheatriots....13 wins, 0 losses, Franchise's long history of whoring their integrity out for cheap accomplishment intact....wanna trade? I sure as hell don't.....enjoy your taint, I hear it tastes like chicken....does it?

Its a matter of when not if.
So, the questions I poseare; How big will the impact be?Will the league make it go away as quietly as the time that New England (& only NE) waspunishedfor illegal use use of videotape?

If the Patriots had taped in the endzone and with some semblence of permission to do so, then perhaps they wouldn't be out a draft pick and a half million dollars. Go Patriots!

Did you guys read the rules I posted? Why were those rulesput in place if they are going to allow teams to film anyways? If the Patriots are getting penalized for breaking this rule (no video cameras on the sidelines), then why are other teams allowed to videotape without having their footage reviewed? It doesn't add up.

If the Patriots are getting penalized for breaking this rule (no video cameras on the sidelines), then why are other teams allowed to videotape without having their footage reviewed? It doesn't add up.

Look, I haven't been in an NFL stadium in over a decade. I don't know how the setups look. All I know is that the Jets have said that they were filming the game and NOT someone giving defensive signals. The Jets have said that they ask for permission when they do it and grant permission when asked. I know that the NFL knows and hasn't said anything about it. I know that the Patriots haven't complained and, if I were Kraft or Belicheck, and the Jets cost me a bunch of money and a first rounddraft pick, you better believe that I would throw them under the bus if I had something on them.

QUOTE (44Thrilla)

Did you guys read the rules I posted? Why were those rulesput in place if they are going to allow teams to film anyways?

A somewhat similar ananlogy:
I am in a steel-tipped darts league. We have a line taped on the floor that is used as a guildline for how close you are allowed to stand before throwing your darts. The rules state that no one may step over that line while throwing. When two teams get together for a match, people will often step slightly over that line, by a little bit. It's usually only half of their big toe over, not much. Most people's stances fall somewhere between half their toe over, and 2 inches behind the line. If we had strict league interpretation of the rule, then anyone who crossed that line by the length of an atom would lose their turn for that round. As watchdogs over one another's behavior we enforce the rule only when it leaves that grey area, and creates an obvious unfair competivie advantage. The Jets have half their toe over the line. The Patriots began their throw 5 feet in front of that line. At that point, the good-natured, good sport game they are playing disintegrates, and drama ensues. Forget about anything that they had previously and politely agreed upon before the match, its now in the hands of the league.
Yep, I read those rules. What it boils down to, is New England crossed the imaginary line-in-the sand in week 1 of this season. New England gave limited permision to the Jets last season to tape the game from the endzone. New England gave them this permission *outside* the rules that you quoted. In week 1 this year, the Patriots had a guy brazenly walk the sidelines, *and* directed his camera not that the game in progress, but instead the defensive coaches so they could record their signals. When Mangini caught wind of this, he did what he should have done - blew the whistle. If Mangini knowingly allowed the Patriots to exert an unfair competitive adantage outside of written and unwritten rules, then he is actually hurting his own team. If the Jets players ever found out that Mangini knowingly allowed the Patriots to undermine them, then Mangini loses his team's confidence instantly. Whatever unwritten agreements the Jets and Patriots had going prior to that have now been destroyed because New England ceased to behave like gentlemen and took the camera thing way too far.

QUOTE

If the Patriots are getting penalized for breaking this rule (no video cameras on the sidelines), then why are other teams allowed to videotape without having their footage reviewed? It doesn't add up.

Because the league didn't know about the unwritten agreements that are being made behind their back. They do now. Mangini blew the whole thing up. Is the NFL going to ask for the Jets tapes? Do the Jets have any tapes? Possession is nine tenths of the law. Also, the Jets tapes were probably just filming the 22 players on the field and not directly at the coaches with the sole intention of taping defensive signals. Prove that the Jets were attempting to steal signals, the Patriots certainly were.

First of all, let's not compare you and your buddies darts game to the National Football League. Secondly, I don't really care about this, I'm just wondering where the outrage is. The same people who cried conspiracy because they didnt like the amount of time Goodell spent on the Pats investigation are now defending the NFL on their lack of an explanation for these clear rule violations and the fact that they aren't even going to review these tapes. If people are really so worried about "cheating" then they should be asking for answers to these questions, but they aren't, they just want to use what happened to badmouth the Patriots and Belichick because of their hatred towards him and the team. Thats' obviously their only intention.

"First of all, let's not compare you and your buddies darts game to the National Football League"
Are you able to interpret an analogy? I may be talking over your level of critical thinking and logic. Of course darts and football are different games. Again, you miss the point. The comparison was being made to the consensus made between two parties in competition.
I hope the NFL does find these alleged tapes that were created a year ago, so lay off. If the Jets lose their first round pick, doesn't that mean the Raiders could move up in the draft? I HOPE the Jets were also taping defensive signals.

In fact, it was in thread (I think?), I stated if the Pats & Jets want to race to the bottom then that was okay to me.
It seems that the Jets got prior clearance from the league and followed the established guidelines. They did not get arrogant and get unethically proactive in their surveillance tactics. What frosts my cupcakes is that pats fans are in such denial that they can't see the elephant in the room and rationalize Belichick & company's illegal activities by saying everyone"cheats" when they have no more insight into any of the 32 teams than any of the rest of us do.

QUOTE (44Thrilla)

If people are really so worried about "cheating" then they should be asking for answers to these questions, but they aren't, they just want to use what happened to badmouth the Patriots and Belichick because of their hatred towards him and the team. Patriot fans keep ignoring that because they just want to deflect blame for the Patriots cheating. That's their only intention.
By the way, I have no problem with the Jets being investigated. I think the NFL should hire an outside agency to do routine audits and inspections of individual team offices and stadiums and the NFL offices to make sure that everyone is adhearing to league policies. If the league can keep up untucked jerseys and sagging tube socks then they should know if teams are adhering to the league's taping policies.

You have convinced me....the Jets should lose thier 1st round pick too....then people would say, "thats not fair, the Jets lost a top 10, the patriots lost a late 1st"....I have a solution for that as well, take the 49ers pick from them and let them keep thiers....anyone have a reason to take the Bills #1 as well? Im listening if you do....

By the way, the Dolphins are my favorite team before anybody labels me as a Patriots fan again. The Pats, however, are my local team and I do support them in every game they play against the other 30 teams. That's pretty weird, I know.
