QUOTE

Josh Boone looked a lot like an after thought among the Net bigs this training camp. The team had gone out of its way to add depth upfront, drafting Sean Williams, signing Jamaal Magloire and Malik Allen. But as Dave D’Allesandro wrote before Friday night’s game, the celebral UConn big man kept plugging away and now, after averaging 10 boards a game for the last three, looks like the solid choice to start.

-netsdaily.com

Boone's Coming Up Big

QUOTE

The only question some people around the team have is about his head.
Boone is very self-critical, and one mistake tends to send him sideways - for the next play, for the rest of the game, for the next few games. "That's been one of the key things that they've been telling me this year - that you've just got to play through everything, you've got to have a really short memory in this game, and if you make a mistake, just make sure it doesn't happen again.
"But as far as I know, I'm not anymore. I wouldn't have considered myself a moper last year -- I'm just a little too hard on myself sometimes."
"The more he plays, the more he'll outgrow that," Frank said. "It's a rite of passage with any young player. So much of this game is maintaining confidence. With Josh, he might dip his shoulders a little bit, but the more success he has, hopefully the less he does it."
The only question some people around the team have is about his head.
Boone is very self-critical, and one mistake tends to send him sideways - for the next play, for the rest of the game, for the next few games. Maybe that's why he could go from having 3 great games in a row to being out of the rotation. Hopefully, though, he doesn't do the same this season.

yeah, I see that in Boone. I can relate to him..but it must be tough if you're a ball player to be hard on yourself like that. He seems to be doing it less and less as games progress though.

QUOTE (mynetsforlife)

Frank, please start Boone.

Did you ever think you'd say that?

Boone's been hanging out with Wright too much.
Basketball is a tricky game. Too little confidence, you get down on yourself, never realize your potential. Too much, you end up as a ball-hogging chucker, and end up hurting your team more than helping it.
That's what makes guys like Robert Horry, Shane Battier, Tayshaun Prince and Steve Blake so valuable. They know what they're capable of, and are effective at doing it. It's a surprisingly rare mentality in the NBA.

Dominique Wilkins said it best, you wont make it in this league or go very far without confidence. Wright is a bust who's back to playing pussyball, let's hope Boone keeps his play up.

Yes.

Where's JBF when you need him.

I don't think Josh Boone is a "moper." I think he just holds himself to a higher standard than he holds others. I think I understand him, because I've thought for a long time now that he has the same brain type as I do, just from watching his mannerisms and listening to how he answers questions.
