QUOTE

Eric Devendorf has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will be out for the season.

He is scheduled to have surgery on the knee, though no date has been set yet for the procedure.

Devendorf injured the knee in the early moments of the second half in Saturday's 125-75 win over East Tennessee State at the Carrier Dome. He had just led the Syracuse fast break and had fed Paul Harris for a layup when he appeared to awkwardly turn upcourt. He landed in the lap of SU graduate assistant Kip Wellman and immediately clutched the knee and winced in pain. Wellman and SU trainer Brad Pike carried Devendorf from the court. He never returned.

Mike Waters is working on the story and will have more to report later today.

I'm still trying to figure out if this is a good thing or a bad thing..

The anterior cruciate ligament (or ACL) is one of the four major ligaments of the knee.

It connects from a posterio-lateral part of the femur to an anterio-medial part of the tibia. These attachments allow it to resist anterior translation of the tibia, in relation to the femur. More specifically, it is attached to the depression in front of the intercondyloid eminence of the tibia, being blended with the anterior extremity of the lateral meniscus.

It passes up, backward, and laterally, and is fixed into the medial and back part of the lateral condyle of the femur.

    Diagnosis

The Lachman test is supported by most authorities to be the most reliable and sensitive maneuver for the diagnosis of an ACL tear.

I don't follow college hoops that closely; did he play in enough games that he doesn't get a year's eligibility back?

Yes, he is eligible for redshirting. He said he's gonna take advantage of that...So that means we'll have 2 more years of Devendorf. Still trying to figure out if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
