The Oxford Press stated that Jason Kidd has asked for a trade, and he's very high on LA. They said that Kidd would be sent to LA in a package for Chris Mihm, Kwame Brown, and Sasha Vujacic. Obviously, EVERY Laker fan would say "HELL YEAH" to this, but I am very confused as the contracts do not match up. We are still $6M short. A trade that DOES work is Kwame Brown, LO, and Mihm for Kidd, Boone, and Malik Allen. I do NOT like this trade because we give up 3 of our bigs and the following lineup does not appeal to me: PG Jason Kidd SG Kobe Bryant SF Luke Walton PF Ronny Turiaf C Andrew Bynum
I don't know how much longer Andrew Bynum can keep up his game, Luke Walton has been struggling, and Ronny Turiaf is a turnover machine. To be honest, I'm all for trading LO, but we NEED to keep Kwame. Though his offense, for lack of a better term, sucks, his interior defense has been great for our ballclub. Also, thats $9M off the books this summer. WE ARE SO CLOSE! WITH KIDD IN PURPLE AND GOLD PLAYING NEXT TO MAMBA, WE CAN COMPETE W/ ANYONE!

First of all, link? Second of all, I don't believe any of this. New Jersey isn't stupid. The reporter probably just made up some random crap

Especially with Boone playing so well.

NJ would get ripped off big in that trade.

Rod should tell Mitch he needs to give up Bynum or no Kidd.

Well then Kidd is staying in New Jersey. No way in hell do we give up Andrew Bynum for Jason Kidd. We didn't do it last year, and we sure as hell won't do it this year

Go on to hoopshype.com. It's near the top. It's an article that's about Chris Mihm but says how he may be on his way out to NJ for Kidd. I agree, it IS a stupid trade for NJ, and as for Boone, I threw that up there because I was looking for a trade that contracts would match up and we don't have to get rid of one of our studs. Another trade: LA receives: Kidd, Malik Allen, Collins NJ receives: Odom, Brown, Mihm, Vujacic
Thing is, I don't want to take on Collins ugly contract.

^ I'd make that trade in a heartbeat. And GM3, I don't see why you guys would want Lamar, I'd trade him for a bag of chips right now, but whatever pleases you.

I'd throw Javaris Crittenton in there for NJ to keep Malik Allen and give us Boone. I understand Boone is playing well, but you have to young future PGs to work side-by-side in Marcus Williams and Java Man. But honestly, I think NJ will realize that Critt is better and in a couple of years they may ship out Williams.

Not when Boone and Sean Williams are playing so well together.

^Simple. No way are we getting rid of our entire future just to keep our superstar happy for a couple of seasons. If you can put 10 years of life back into the legs of Kidd, we'll talk.

QUOTE (lakerman34)

^Simple. No way are we getting rid of our entire future just to keep our superstar happy for a couple of seasons. If you can put 10 years of life back into the legs of Kidd, we'll talk.

So trade Kobe to the Nets. You aren't going anywhere with or without him, so why waste his time? The Nets will be more than happy to give away their crap inexchange for Kobe. And don't say Bryant is worth more than Magloire, Wright, Collins, Boone etc, because thats what we're saying about Kidd, and you seem to dismiss it.

QUOTE (Real)

Well last year you pissed off Kobe and looked stupid for it.

Yeah? So? Are we the Los Angeles Lakers, or the Los Angeles Kobes? Last I checked, we were the former. We're not going to make trades just to make Kobe "happy" if it's not in the best interest of our organization. And for the record, Kobe isn't unhappy anymore, and he's more than willing to continue playing with the Lakers. If we opts out in two seasonsand takes a major paycutto go play of a contender, then kudos to him. He'll earn more respect from me,and he'llleave us with a bunch of cap space, and we'll have a solid group of youngsters to build around.

QUOTE

This year you're still not going anywhere in the West with the current squad you have.

Nobody said we were. The Nets aren't going anywhere soon either. And even if we do trade for Jason Kidd, he's not going to make us automatic contenders. Trading for Jason Kidd does not mean trading only Andrew Bynum. The salaries must match, so in order to get him, not only will we have to trade away our entire future (Bynum and possibly multiple picks), we'd also have to throw in someone like Lamar Odom, or we'd have to throw in others to make the salaries match and deplete our depth, which is the only strength of this team. A duo of Kobe Bryant and Jason Kidd is not going anywhere. At best, we'd make it to the second round and get eliminated because we still can't compete with San Antonio/Dallas/Phoenix.

QUOTE

If you want to move in the upper tier of teams such as San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix, Utah, and now maybe Denver as serious contenders to go to the Finals, why not make a move for aplayerlike Kidd who makes everyone better, and someone who at despite turning 35 this spring, is coming close to averaging a triple double?

For the record, we're already better than Denver. We aren't THAT far away from Utah, and if Kobe is patient (which he seems to be so far in the season) and allows our young talent to develop we'll be in great shape in a couple of years. Andrew Bynum contines to take huge strides every offseason, and he has pretty much already stepped up to the role of being our second option. Jordan Farmar, Javaris Crittenton (whom the coaching staff is really high on) and Trevor Ariza will contine to get better. I would trade Bynum for Kidd if it meant making us instant contenders, but it doesn't. Even with Kidd, we still can't compete with San Antonio or Dallas, and we will lose our only strength against Phoenix, which is post presence.
So no, we're not trading Bynum for Kidd. We didn't last year so we sure as hell won't this year. 20 year old bigs who average a double double to go along with 2 blocks don't grow on trees. Not to mention the guy has steadily improved his game each and every year in the league, and Kobe is impressed with his drive and work ethic. I'd be willing to give up a package of Odom/Brown/Crittenton or Farmar/picks for Kidd, I'd also be willing to take on Collin's contract, but Bynum is off limits. And if you honestly believe you can get the best young prospect from another team in a trade for Jason Kidd, then you are probably mistaken.

I am saying that there is no way that we are giving up our 20 year old stud for a 35 year old aging superstar who only has 3 or 4 seasons left in him. Kidd needs to leave NJ more than the Lakers need a superstar, so in a sense LA is doing NJ a favor in this deal. We are giving up LO, who has struggled but a change in scenery may make him return to his old self, Kwame Brown who is a better interior defender than ANY big man in NJ, Chris Mihm whose basically a filler, and Sasha Vujacic who can be a decent player if he puts on a few pounds. Those are some above decent players we are shipping out for an aging superstar and garbage. We helped you upgrade your 4 and 5 spots, and we are only upgrading at PG, AND we have solid backups in that position as it is. Crittenton would become an instant fan favorite in NJ, and being just 19 years old, he is VERY promising. As an overall player, he will definitely be better than Boone. This trade actually benefits NJ in the longrun more than it helps us out. We just need to make this deal to keep our superstar happy, but Kobe has already admitted that he is content in a Lakers' uniform. Kidd will NOT end his career in a Nets uniform, and LA probably has the most to offer, unless you want to trade him to Cleveland for Hughes and Damon Jones.

QUOTE (Real)

Do what we are trying to do and trade your superstar then.

We're not trading Kobe because he already said he's happy in LA. And like I said in my previous post, if he opts out, then kudos to him. He gives us a ton of cap space, and we'll have a great group of youngsters to rebuild around. We'd certainly be in a better situation than New Jersey

QUOTE

It's not NJ's fault they don't want to get ripped off so your team doesn't wind up in the cellar of the West. The Nets don't give a fuck what happens to you.

And the Lakers don't give a fuck about the Nets either. They can miss the playoffs with their super trio for all I care. And they can look elsewhere to deal Kidd because Bynum is not leaving. Will that hurt my feelings? Hell no. I could care less where Kidd goes

QUOTE

Is Andrew Bynum the nextgreat centeryou want to build a team around? Is Javaris Crittenton the point gaurd of the future for the Lakers, or is it Jordan Farmar?

What does that matter? Obviously Bynum is thought of highly around the league because his name keeps coming up in trade discussions. And obviously you think highly of him as well since you want him in return for Jason Kidd. What, is Sean Williams and Marcus Williams the next great super duo of the NBA?
