The Cowboys after Jimmy were in much the same condition as The Dolphins under Wanny. Always winning 9 or 10 & expected to do more but never quite suceeding until Parcells arrived. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (choppermang @ Dec 27 2007, 07:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>What I think is hilarious are the predictions that are coming out regarding the Dolphins. Deep in the playoffs in a few short years? Vonnie Holliday saying that they're just going to sit back and let the magic happen this offseason? This problem is way beyond the help of Bill Parcells, but the hire doesn't surprise me at all. Ever since the departure of Don Shula, the team has been too proud to just hire a guy who actually fits and stick with him. It's been a trainwreck chase for the flavor of the month (Johnson, Wannstedt, Saban, Cameron) and it doesn't matter who they bring in, how big their name is or w/e, you can't be successful ushering in coach after coach, and not paying any mind at all to the schemes and the attitudes they bring with them. There is no trend within this franchise regarding their personnel outside of name recognition.</div> I am not expecting miracles but BP's track record is above average. The hiring of Jimmy by Wayne was not the problem. It Wayne buying into Jimmy's song and dance to hire Dave that is the genesis of many of the Dolphins problems. Vonnie IMO knows that Parcells will do what he can to right the ship but I do not expect the players to rest on their laurels. Those that did were axed by Cameron & Mueller this past off season. I read where Joey Porter said everyone himself included was nervous knowing Parcells was watching practice today. JJ just did not have the patience to rebuild again nor the ego to realize Dan was still the man. Saban, like JJ, just did not have the patience to implement his process. Its too early to say Cam is failure. When you said above (in essence) that, "Parcells took a good team and allegedly ruined it." Sometimes, you have to tinker and destroy some things in order to recreate something and make it better. The Cowboys are much better now than they were 6 years ago. I dare you to tell me otherwise. The draft/personnel mgmt is not an exact or perfect science. Though, I like what Cam & Mueller did. The starting punter & Center were found in the 07 draft as were the future QB, a legitimate threat @ WR, & a great change of pace RB. Not to mention, a DE/OLB & OL that will contribute in 08 and beyond. Bringing in coach after coach is not the answer. Cameron & Mueller should stay. They are IMO changing the mindset & philosophy. It just so happens that Rome wasn't built in a day. Hopefully, BP realizes this and can give Cam and Randy the benefit of the doubt & impart some of his wisdom to return the phins to glory.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (choppermang @ Dec 27 2007, 07:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>He's coached a hall of fame runningback. And an average, yet versatile, receiver, and a much crappier Brian Westbrook type who nobody will remember 5 years from now. Cool. There's 50 other coaches who have done the same thing. But while we're being condescending, have you ever heard of Scott Brunner? Parcells opted for him over the established Phil Simms in his first season in New York. In '84, he just dug himself out of his own hole by correcting a mistake he should have never made in the first place. But huge market hungry media outlets praised him as a savior. Savior of what? His own stupidity? What about Bobby Carpenter? Great 3-4 outside linebacker. What about being so out of his element and dissociated from the game, and having developed such an ego as to bring half a roster of his former players to Dallas and turn a talented team into a 6-10 underachiever? What I think is hilarious are the predictions that are coming out regarding the Dolphins. Deep in the playoffs in a few short years? There is no trend within this franchise regarding their personnel outside of name recognition.</div> I only named a few guys that he coached. You attempted to mislead the reader into thinking that the guy can't select, coach, and develop some of the best players that we have ever seen on the field. You're flat out wrong, and each time you bring up one of his least best players, you ignore a dozen others that are all-pro, future and present Hall of Famers. 50 other coaches have done the same thing? Thanks, Mr. Obvious. The Hall of Fame has how many coaches in it right now? Bill Parcells is among those elite "50 other" coaches. Your point is? It seems that you are ready to highlight only the "perceived" mistakes that were made in Parcells decisions. He has enough results to prove that whatever he did yielded success on every team, and that the end results completely justify the means in the eyes of players, coaches, and owners. Ego? So what? Bringing in former players and coaches that helped you on other teams? If it helps your new team, then what the hell is your point? Who cares? In every job I have been in, people bring their old coworkers all the time because they had success with them and they had known quantity that would fit in a particular role. Look, now Dallas has home field advantage in the playoffs one year after he left! Hmmm, it must be all Wade Phillips! <laughing my ass off at your assessment> There is no mystery that the Dolphins owner Wayne H. has made some bad hires as far as head coach in recent years, this much I will give you. Essentially, Bill P. was granted owner-level priviledges by Wayne, and I think Bill is going to make better decisions than than him as far as GM, HC, players, and assistants. Bill > Wayne in terms of what needs to be done. Wayne is now going to sit back and write checks. You want to talk "trends"? Bill Parcells has a trend of creating championship caliber teams in only a few years time. That is historical fact.

Simms wins the Superbowl two years later. Simms was on the team when the Giants won their next Superbowl. I am struggling to figure out why the benching of Simms was a bad thing for Simms, the rest of the Giants, their fans, and for you. It seems like the least important thing one could think of to complain about when discussing Parcells legacy.
To answer some of your critical statements: 1.You claim hes an egotistical old man with a winning % barely over 50%....the truth is hes 42 games over 500....his .570 winning % is made to look even better when you consider that the teams he took over had a collective winning % of .210....thats right, 4 times hes taken over a big bucket of chicken shit and made it into a nice batch of chicken salad.... 2. You use the benching of Simms as an example of "poor" evaluation of players....the truth is that Simms was a 1st round draft pick in 1979 and had QB ratings of 66, 59, and 74 in the 3 seasons before Parcells took over....he deserved to get benched at that point in his career....what you call a poor evaluation, I call a masterful ploy to motivate the talented 1st round bust....btw, Simms responded and improved leaps and bounds after that so I guess Parcells knew what he was doing....
