Rudy Gay appears to have fixed all of his major weaknesses and is turning himself into a star. I admit that I didn't think he would ever have the inner drive and desire to improve his ball skills and his shooting, but he has managed to do that in only his second year. Rudy Gay is Jerry West's parting gift to Memphis and I won't bother going on about Daryl Morey.
I always thought all that crap about Rudy Gay before he came into the league was bogus. People knocked on him because he never took over and dominated in college - he didn't have to. He played with 4-5 other college stars in a very unselfish system. Gay's talent is remarkable, and he really seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Now, Scottie Pippen he is not, but it's pretty safe to say that Rudy will be playing in an All-Star game or two before his career is over. He does it all.
I never cared about the passive label that was put on him as far as his in game play. What I was concerned about where the major holes in his game and the lack of progress on them in college.
He fits in really well with Yao. With T-mac on the injured list again Houston sure got lucky with Rudy Gay.
That shot against Duncan was crazy. I wouldn't have expected that to go in if I was watching the game, live. I'm sure Gay is surprising everyone.
Are the Rockets regretting that move? Battier is putting up 8/5/2 and Gay is putting up 20/6/2. Gay is also 8 years younger. Looks like a robbery.
I was one of the guys in the Bulls forum saying that the Bulls should go for Rudy. He clearly had the best potential to become a real star in this league, in a weak draft. The Bulls did have Deng, but considering all the deals that Paxson has nixed because teams wanted Deng, we could have "settled" for one of those and Rudy as our SF.
The guy has really developed into a big time talent, in only his second year, he's become a go-to guy on a pretty talented team.
