Rumor has it that Onterrio McCalebb has committed to Rutgers. He originally committed to West Virginia after his visit there a few months ago, but with the Rich Rod situation, he opened up his recruitment, and it seems he has committed to Rutgers. There has been no confirmation by the rivals.com guys (McCalebb's school is out for Christmas break already, so they haven't been able to contact him personally), but scout has reported it as true, as has Anthony Fulcilli. So, we'll see if we can get some more confirmation tomorrow. If true, this is a huge get. Kid is made of rock, and runs a 4.35 forty.

    Really good get if true.

Since Ryan Williams has basically dropped Rutgers and is down to BC and Va Tech. I said from the beginning, I'd be very surprised if he didn't commit to Tech.

I'm beginning to doubt the validity of this commit. The rivals guys have still not been able to contact Onterrio, and his track coach said that McCalebb told him yesterday he has not committed anywhere. So, all indications are that scout has blown another supposed commitment. No surprise there.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Rumph also has kept the Tigers in the hunt with running back Onterio McCalebb (5-11, 172) of Fort Meade, Fla., and he will visit Clemson on Jan. 18. McCalebb committed to West Virginia in September but backed off that after Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan. McCalebb will visit Rutgers on Jan. 25. He has visited Auburn and also is considering those Tigers.</div>

I think this is a clear indication that he hasn't yet committed to Rutgers. Once again, the Rutgers site at scout blows another commitment. But it seems as if we're definitely in the running for him, and his last visit will be to Rutgers, which is certainly a positive for us. He's close to DC Jefferson, so that helps us as well.

    McCalebb headed to Rutgers

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The recruiting game is always filled with a few exciting twists and turns. Perhaps the most exciting twist of the 2008 class came upon the recent commitment of Onterrio McCalebb of Fort Meade, Florida. The 4-star running back originally committed to West Virginia in September only to reconsider later.

Rumors that McCalebb decided to change gears and commit to Rutgers appeared on Scout.com ten days ago, but follow-up calls to McCalebb were unanswered and his football and track coaches were either in the dark or stated that he was still open. However, it appears that the initial reports were true and that McCalebb has indeed decided to commit to Rutgers</div>

    Beat me to it. [IMG]

I have this huge smile on my face all of sudden and it won't go away. Great pick-up, now that we actually know it's true.

Never verballed. Is visiting Clemson on the 18th, then RU on the 25th and will make a decision. I still think he ends up at Rutgers, though. Just have to be patient.

LOL! Committed to Auburn! This kid is so confused. Out of Clemson, Rutgers WVU, and Auburn, I would have told you two days ago that he would most likely end up at Clemson or RU, with WVU having a slim shot, and Auburn with basically NO shot. This is hilarious. It'll be interesting to see if he still vists Clemson and RU.

And an extra tidbit: he's probably not going to qualify, so it looks like it's the Prep route for him. I hadn't known of any academic issues with him until today.

He will still be visiting Clemson and Rutgers. Don't be surprised if he changes his mind again somewhere along the way.

Clemson has canceled McCalebb's visit. They are done recruiting him. I think he's still visiting RU, but not sure.

There has been a rumored commit to RU today. Won't say who yet until there's more confirmation, but let's just say it's a CB that I've been hoping we would get for the past two months.

Now confirmed, David Rowe from Florida has committed to Rutgers. Solid.

McCalebb is 50/50 on Auburn or Rutgers. He's making his final choice on signing day. Also, an interesting note: he's visiting Ann Arbor next weekend, but still maintains it's either Auburn or RU. My opinion, things are looking up for the Scarlet Knights. He loved his visit this past weekend, loved going into NYC, and spoke with Ray Rice about the program and the family feel that Onterrio desires.

ALSO, do not be surprised to hear some news about JB Fitzgerald possibly rethinking Rutgers in the coming days. Not saying he's de-committing from Michigan or anything, but Rutgers might still have a shot.

ATH Justin Feagin will be visiting Michigan this upcoming weekend. He's down to Michigan, Rutgers, and Syracuse and will make a decision next Monday or Tuesday, after his visit to Ann Arbor. Michigan is recruiting him as a QB, but if they land Pryor, that obviously changes things up A LOT. Rutgers and Syracuse are recruiting him his an athlete who will either play WR or DB. Michigan has said they will give him a shot at WR is they get Pryor.

Eddie Poole, a WR/DB/LB prospect from Belle Glade, Florida has committed to Rutgers. Recruited in the shadow of high-profile teammate and fellow WR, Travis Benjamin, not much is known about Eddie. His actual height isn't even documented, though he's believed to be about 6'3", possibly 6'4". He had knee surgery in the spring of 2007, thus his recruitment took a major hit as he attended not a single combine during his rehab over the summer. Supposedly, he had a very successful senior campaign and is thought to have received interest from the likes of Florida, Florida State, and Ohio State though it is unknown whether he had any offers from those schools. More to come later . . .

Malcolm Johnson, a DB from Florida, has also committed to Rutgers today. He is cousins with Tim Brown, and may also play WR for the Knights. Made some sick catches on his rivals video.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Fitzgerald, the Gatorade New Jersey player of the year, committed in a September press conference to Michigan, which was then coached by Lloyd Carr.

Now, though, Carr has since retired, former West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez has been hired to replace him (after Schiano removed his name from consideration for the job). According to WW-P South coach Todd Smith, the Scarlet Knights are a strong contender to land Fitzgerald in the final days before national signing day.

Smith said that, after making an official visit to Piscataway last weekend, Fitzgerald appears torn between the schools.

He will make an unofficial visit to Michigan this weekend, paying his own way to meet again with Rodriguez and his staff, and decide between the two finalists by national signing day on Wednesday.

“I know he enjoyed his visit to Rutgers and I know that he’s going to Michigan unofficially to spend some time with the staff,” Smith said. “I guess we’ll know on Signing Day where he’s going to go.”

George Baker, a big time CB from Florida, has de-committed from Auburn and is down to four schools: Auburn, Rutgers, UCF, and USF. He says he'll have it narrowed to two (Auburn WILL be one of the two) by tomorrow and then make a final choice on LOI day. I do not think he wants to stay in state for school, which would seem to leave only Auburn or Rutgers. My gut opinion is he goes back to Auburn, because honestly, I don't see how we'll have a scholarship spot for him. We probably only have 1 or 2 remaining and if JB decides to stay home, there's not way we take Baker over him.
