He's averaging 18.3 points and 16.7 rebounds a game this month, including 4.7 offensive rebounds. He is shooting 64.7% from the floor as well.

Yeah, it's only the D-League and Morris Almond scored 51 last night to set a league scoring record. Now, Almond is about to be called back to Utah. Why shouldn't the Nets recall Boom Tho who set a league record with 28 rebounds at the beginning of the month. NBA 10-day contracts become available on January 7 and after a month in training camp, Benson certainly knows the Nets system.

It would be nice if the Nets could do what a number of successful teams are doing: filling out the roster with players who are going to take some time to develop rather than rely completely on marginal veterans. A little player development would help.

I can't expect Malik Allen to be dropped based on how he's performing as a bench player, but maybe Rod could come in and play some 3? He wouldn't be the 3-point shooter we need, but I can see him excelling in the pick-and-pop game that's been taking advantage of Malik's midrange game. Plus we can play a 'big' lineup yet still play 'small ball.'

The Nets have 13 players under contract and should be enough under the luxury tax to handle a 10 day or even a rookie minimum the rest of the way. And my point is that player development, as practiced by other teams, involves taking a risk on a player not just short term but longer term. Take a look at the Warriors bench tonight for examples.

Is Rod Benson a decent long term project, decent enough to pay a few bucks to so he can get into the system? I think he is. By the same token, I would have much rather had the Nets offer Andray Blatche the full MLE over a few years than give Jamaal Magloire $4 million over one. The Wiz might have matched the full MLE, but we'll never know. What we do now know is that Blatche was interested in the Nets and is 21 years old and is already more productive than Magloire already.

i hate how this team always wnatsb to rely on declining vets. like seriously, they dont even play, light as well sign guys like Blatche (who I wanted) and benson, who knows, you might strike oil and get a good player but know, we have to rely on pieces of shit like Magloire and Malik Allen. WTF. thats the reason why this team will never have a good future.

Our coach isn't exactly the ideal player-developer.

    More of a young-player-confidence-ruiner.

    agreed.

seriously though there is a reason it's called the d-league...most of those players wouldn't start in Europe. Instead of signing a d-leaguer why not try to trade Magliore for a Guard-Forward.

Lots of teams find good players in the D-League. The last D-Leaguer to put up rebounding numbers like Benson was Mikki Moore. Kelenna Abuzike is likely to put up big numbers tonight.

As for trading Magloire, why not trade him to a team that was interested in him over the summer and ask for a guard-forward who also has a $4 million expiring contract and is very unhappy: that would be the Utah Jazz for Gordan Giricek.

I think that would be a really solid trade for us. Giricek would be a really solid backup for Vince and really help us where we're that worst SG/SF depth.

Actually I think he would be a lot like Luscious Harris was fors us a few years ago. Personally I think the only reason he sucks is cause Sloane and the Jazz are killing him. It isn't easy to play in Utah.

    Utah sucks.

Worse defense than Boki. I don't think he's anything like Luscious other than the fact that he can knock down a shot. But hey, every man is entitled to his opinion.

I'd love to see him here. I don't get why we wouldn't. If he got a mid range game like Malik he'd be the younger version with more promise and maybe even better defense.

Plus he has to be a great guy for the locker room.

I am content with Malik Allen right now, as long as he is not a starter,
and does not play alongside Collins.

I'd still like to see Rod with us. compare his numbers to Malik's. plus youth + more athletic than Allen. let him be part of the youth of the future: marucs, sean, and josh
