Chicago held a 5-3 heading into the ninth, but closer BobbyJenks allowed a leadoff single to pinch hitter Trot Nixon beforeGarko blasted a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall to knot thegame and extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

"Tonight I was able to get a pitch to hit and get to him," Garkosaid. "It's always battle when you a face a guy like him."

Garko is batting .462 (18-39) during his career-high 11-gamehitting streak.

"I have been getting good pitches to hit and getting into goodhitters count," Garko said.

Jenks, who blew his fifth save of the season and second sincethe All-Star break, retired the next three batters to get out ofthe inning without further incident.

"The fastball to Trot Nixon was the difference," White Soxmanager Ozzie Guillen said. "He had him two strikes andshouldn't have thrown him the fastball. Obviously the pinch-hithomer tied the game, but the pitch to Nixon opened the door."

Jason Michaels led off the bottom of the 11th with a double offDewon Day (0-1) to set the stage for Garko, who delivered thewinning run with a looping single into shallow center field justbeyond the reach of Chicago shortstop Juan Uribe.

"It's unexpected (to tie and win the game)," Garko said. "I wasjust hoping the ball would fall and get (Michaels) to third. Ididn't think there was anyway he would score."

Michaels wasted no time in leaving second base and didn't lookback to see if the ball would be caught.

"As soon as (Garko) hit it, I hesitated then went," Michaelssaid. "I didn't know how close he was. It was lucky. I took aguess that it would be out of his reach."

Cleveland reliever Rafael Betancourt (2-0) earned the win afterpitching a perfect 11th.

It was the Indians' major league-leading 28th come-from-behindvictory this season.

"They've got the confidence all the way to the end," Indiansmanager Eric Wedge said. "This is a special group of young menthat respect and appreciate this game and that's the way theyplay. That's the great thing about baseball, there's no clockout there. You are going to play until the final out and that'sthe way these guys get after it."

"It's been the story of our season," Garko said. "There are 25guys pulling on the same rope."
