Arsenal boss Wenger rules out January spending spree

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>LONDON (AFP) - Arsene Wenger is planning to ignore the January sales because he believes Arsenal have enough strength in depth to last the pace in the Premier League title race.

Wenger will be without Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue for a month in the New Year while the defenders play at the African Nations Cup.

The transfer window opens in January but the Gunners boss feels he has enough cover and doesn't want to sign a player who would be consigned to the reserves when Toure and Eboue return in February.

"Kolo Toure goes off to the African Nations Cup shortly and we may lose Alex Song for it as well," Wenger said.

"Even with Johan Djourou returning from Birmingham we would then be left with three specialist centre-backs.

"If I signed another one we'd have too many after the African Nations. Sometimes you just have to suffer during the tournament and let your players play."</div>

    I don't trust him.

He'll still try and make a signing.

I just did a double take "strength in depth" without all the Africans? If Arsenal have strength in depth then my name's Kleenex brand ultra soft.

Whatever Master Wenger says goes at Arsenal. thats the way it should be. Maybe he should buy a cheap-ish CB to replace Toure. I know we have Senderos but if he gets injured we're buggered. Speaking of Buggered what about Portsmouth when the African nation comes round? They lose they're entire strikeforce. Except for Nuegent of Course:D

Well, I'm sure we will sign at least one player. We have senderos as a back-up, diaby in midfield, eduardo is starting to get his scoring touch lately, also we might get Carlos Vela back from osasuna if he gets his work permit, so that should give us a boost in the wing or striker dept...he's like reyes but faster alike Henry and walcott, can't wait to see this kid in red and white, he caused so much trouble for Ramos (Real madrid)when they matched up a few games back. C'mon you Gooners!!!!! [IMG]

Yeh Vela seems an Amazing kid. He's up there with the new Wonderkids now coming through. The likes of Vela, Dos Santos, Walcott, Merida and the already well established Messi. The future of football is looking strong i must say. I was thinking the other day Wenger probably will spend a little but he'll buy a complete no body and Develop him. Like Fabregas for example was relative Unknown and now he's easily Top 3 CM's in the world. the top 3 IMO are Kaka, Fabregas and Maybe Gerrard

nice avatar Max, I loved that adebayor goal against the spuds. I just changed mine to Vela, terrorizing Ramos...lol. The only reason why I hype vela so much is because I see him more expirienced than the likes of Walcott, Merida, ect. I think he can challenge a spot with bendter or eduardo, he's a regular on the osasuna squad and has improved his physical condition with Arsenal's supervision in spain. I can't wait to see fabregas and him linking up on the pitch at the emirates!
