As much as I love Smith and I love Rutgers, I really don't think he's staying home. He canceled his visit three weeks ago, which is usually not a good sign. Also, rumor has it that he had already made up his mind a little over a week ago, but is just waiting to announce at the Army All-American game. So, based on the timing of when the rumor leaked (he had just missed his RU visit, and Michigan had still not hired Rich Rod), I think he's going to USC. That's my take.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>ATH Brandon Smith (6-3 210) of New Brunswick, NJ plans to make his college announcement Saturday during the telecast of the U.S. Army All America Game in San Antonio his grandmother said Monday. Smith took official visits to USC, Rutgers, Michigan and Colorado. Sources close to USC indicate the Gamecocks feel good about their chances to land Smith. "They are recruiting me as a true athlete," Smith said of the Gamecocks following his November official visit. "They just want me to come in and play."</div> Link
Anybody who makes any comments about whether Smith is leaning one way or another right now is making it up, IMO. He has leaked nothing (and I mean nothing) so it's all just speculation. He's definitely done a fabulous job of not letting anything out until Saturday. Also, sources close to the Smith family have stated that they would be pissed if he chose USC, so take that for what it's worth.
I don't understand why his parents would be psised him going to USC. It's a great school academically, and Dwyane Jarrett went there and it worked out great for him.

I wouldn't want my son becoming a cock.
From the Michigan rivals site, Smith just confirms he will be announcing this Saturday between Boston College, Michigan, Rutgers, and South Carolina. He says he's pretty sure who he will choose, but not yet 100% sure. I'm fairly certain BC has absolutely no shot.
In a video interview with scout taken today, Smith says he will choose between Michigan, SC, and Rutgers . . . sooooo apparently he isn't down to two anymore and Rutgers is still in it.
