<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Chicago Bulls GM John Paxson made it clear that he was unlikely to pick a permanent successor this season, or as permanent as a coach can be in the NBA these days the Chicago Tribune reported. Sources say inquiries have already been made on behalf of Rick Carlisle and Larry Brown, each a former coach of the year, and Paul Westphal, who's back on an NBA bench as a Dallas assistant. Paxson said assistant Pete Myers would coach Wednesday's game. Top assistant Jim Boylan, who interviewed for the Pacers' job last summer, is to meet with Paxson on Wednesday, skipping the San Antonio trip to interview for a job that's likely to last only for the rest of this season</div> http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Ca...F?urn=nba,59129 When guys who I would consider top 5 coaches in the league are available, you go out and get them. I think Popovich, Jackson, Avery Johnson, then Carlisle and Brown are the top 5 coaches in the NBA (well two are out of it). Of course we are unlikely to sign either, because the bastard Paxson is more worried about his reputation, trying to cover his ass for that joke of an offseason (2006) by tanking this year and getting a top talent. Carlisle and Brown both had success with a team that was made up of collective parts, and not stars, as well as with Ben Wallace. They are logical fits. But Paxson is an idiotical tyrant, so of course neither of those two will be signed. I think this just shows what a joke management is when those coaches are calling us, and not the other way around.
I think Paul Westphal should coach them, Bill Laimbeer should be his primary assistant and Chuck Daly should be a special consultant to the organization. That plan is solid gold.

Sounds like something someone would do in a sim league <span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>and create the biggest turnaround in league history</span>
Larry Brown wouldn't be a top 5 coach in the D league, but as a non-Bulls fan, I would love to see him coach the Bulls

He's had great success with Ben Wallace. Maybe if he tells Ben Wallace that he loves him every game, Wallace will actually jump for rebounds again.
Larry Brown and Rick Carlisle wouldn't give the Bulls any offensive freedom, so I don't see how either of them are great fits.
What's the point of firing him if you're not going to get a permanent successor now with the coaches that are out there? Pool of potentials coaches gonna get better?

The Bulls don't have anyone of Rasheed's talent and skill level to play next to Ben.

Any new coach can basically improve the Bulls offense drastically if they just cut all the bullshit out of it. Get the ball out of Hinrich's hands. He just dribbled around. Get Gordon/Deng out of the corners. Them standing in the corners waiting for the defense to breakdown obviously wasn't working. Stop having Ben Gordon shoot 6-8 turnaround fadeaways a game. You can try to blame Gordon all you want for his low shooting percentage, but that idiot play that Skiles ran for him so many times in a game is largely responsible for it too.

This team has shown no ability to inject creativity into the offense and is very weak in the open court. (I am in no way arguing for Larry Brown though.)
If bulls fans were complaining about no PT for Tyrus Thomas now, you can throw it out the window if Brown comes. Doesn't he not play young guys all that much?

I think there's a certain profile of young guys that Brown will play (eg Tayshaun Prince, David Lee), but I'm thinking Thomas doesn't fit that one. I don't think, like cpaw seems to, that Brown is a schlub of a coach, But sort of like I was saying in the trade Wallace thread, there's a critical mass of veteran guys he'd need to give it a go. With the current team, he'll make Skiles look like Mother Theresa. The only guy that came to mind to me in thinking of coaches I thought were decent was Dwane Casey. He seemed to do a fairly good job with what he was given to work with in Minnesota. A retread like Rick Carlisle will make me cry.
