OK, I've seen enough of this guy. He is the worst defensive player on the team - and that includes Marcus Williams. He is very weak and easy to get position against. He is impossibly slow both in a straight line down the court and laterally in the paint. He knows where to rotate, but he has no hope of getting there in time because of his lead feet. He is also short (6' 10", my ass) and easy to get a shot off against. He cannot close out on any shooter, at any time, ever. He is also an ineffecual rebounder. Besides being weak and short, he has terrible timing and no lift when he jumps. He is extremely slow off the floor, so if his timing is off - which is almost every time - he can't get back up. His hands are poor and it's easy to snatch the ball away from him. Offensively, if he receives the ball at any time when he doesn't have an immediate uncontested jumper or a clear path to the goal (with forward movement) he is useless. He's not going to create anything with a pass or a dribble. It's heave or reset. Those are the only options. In the paint, he has no offensive game at all and even if he manages to get right under the basket he has no chance of scoring as long as someone is guarding him. He is shooting 47% on completely uncontested jumpers and whatever garbage baskets he manages to get (which isn't many). The journeyman he replaced shot about 15% better in the exact same role last season. Every time this guy is on the court, it's a signal to the other team that the Nets are vulnerable and they always take advantage. He makes the Nets a lot worse every minute he plays. He contributes nothing but a mental understanding of what he's "supposed" to do, but doesn't have any physical tools to do those things. If I were Thorn, I'd release this guy so Frank has no option to play him (which won't happen because Thorn was the guy who wanted him in the first place). Maybe he can be a coach or something. I don't know. He's certainly not good enough to average 18 MPG on an NBA team. (Ugh)

(Ugh)</div> I agree with you, but his jump shot is consistent, but this guy is horrible on defense, omg I cant believe Franks gonna be a dick giving Jamal no playing time when hes gonna leave his heart out on the court.
I wouldn't call his jumper consistent maybe a better option than most of our other guys but not consistent. Marcus worked really hard yesterday and gave him 2 wide open looks and clank.
His shots are all wide open and uncontested and he can only get them if somebody else does the work. And he still only shoots 47%, despite these shots all being from 18 feet and in.
You forgot to mention the part where, when he actually does get a rebounder *shocker* he either travels or they steal it back. Then again I guess that would fall under your 'poor hands' thing. Nevertheless, Malik needs to see no more than 10 minutes of action. His defense is just
I was in favor of Malik during training camp and as an end of the bench player for us to play if we were really hit hard by injuries but now that he's been given the chance he's done nothing to prove he deserves to be on this team. Sure there's a couple games where his jumper has helped us out but those contributions aren't anything that couldn't just as easily be replaced by a younger player who hustles his butt off and actually gets a stop from time to time.

A 6-8 black guy, on a team full of white guards who were sharpshooters. I think it was Brian Earl who was on that team, was pretty good @ Princeton.

Yeah...this is what I've been saying since the beginning of the season. I don't really care how many 15+ point nights he has, he's still a scrub, and quite possibly the worst big man the Nets have gotten in a while. It's pathetic to see this guy ever set foot on the floor.
