Though the Heat are working the phones hard to remake themselves, the offer of Jason Williams' expiring $8.9 million contract is for now not in simple one-for-one deals.

For at least another month, Pat Riley and Randy Pfund are more likely to use that chip as part of a larger deal. Though Williams is even more of a defensive liability than he used to be, many teams, including the Rockets, would likely be interested if Williams could be had in a small deal.</div>

This is from a Miami beat writter but White Chocolate is not what he used to be. Pass IMO

Jason Williams knows the system. He's been coached by Adelman before. Doesn't seem like such a bad pickup to me, especially when considering he's expiring.

If we can get rid of Mike James and his contract in this deal I'm all for it.

Williams is a guy who knows how to get the ball inside to big men (Shaq, Webber, Gasol) and can knock down the three-point shot. He's also great at taking care of the ball and can run the break with some proficiency. He'd at least be as good as Rafer Alston has been.

I was never impressed with Jason Williams. This would not be a good pickup for the Rockets. The only possible way it would be an ok pickup is if we traded straight up for Mike James or Rafer Alston, as we wouldn't really be losing anything by trading them for Williams...though we might not be gaining anything either. The Rockets are showing all the signs of a team that is panicking...bringing back two players from the D-league pre-maturely, playing around with the bench, and now going after 3rd rate players like Jason Williams...what a painful season this has been as a Rockets fan.

Why are they interested in Williams? Because he has $8.9 million coming off the books at the end of this season, a stacked free agent market this summer, and a location where free agents are bound to be attracted to.

The last thing this team needs is another declining point guard, but financially, this would make sense.

Williams would be a solid pickup for the Rockets. He knows how to play in Adelman's system and he knows how to feed the big man. Williams is also a more efficient scorer from the perimeter.
