According to Al Iannazzone, Thorn will announce a new GM before the new year. We all know its boiling down to former Magics GM John Gabriel and former Nuggets GM Kiki Vandeweghe. I would prefer Mark Jackson but both Gabriel and Kiki have different strenghts that boil down to the question what exactly does Thorn wants to do with the big 3? Gabriel sucks in trading but has picked solid draft picks Zaza Pachulia, Mike Miller and is currently a scout/ administrator for Portland and once named exec of the year. Signed T-mac and Grant hill while at Orlando Kiki's strength is in trading he traded Mcdyess to the knicks for Nene and Camby and kept Denver not competitive but below the cap space. Drafting wise his he likes foreign player
Last night, there was a meeting with Rod Thorn for season-ticket holders (which my Dad is), so he gave a "state of the team" (read: 10 minutes of boring bullshit anyone who follows the NBA could pick up) and then opened himself up for questions. Mostly, he didn't say anything interesting, but he did mention that he'd be making an interim hire for the GM position this week, and then re-evaluating the position at the end of the year, probably getting someone more permanent. Also, Dumpy will be happy to hear that the Nets do in fact have a stats guy in house, although it appeared as if Thorn wasn't too huge a fan of the methodology.
kiki as a GM = Sean Williams max contract Lets not forget that his guy signed what was deemed by many to be the worst contract in the nba.
