http://sportstwo.com/NBA/Story/NBA/1448021 CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday assigned forward Cedric Simmons to the Rio Grand Valley Vipers of the D-League. Simmons has played in four games for the Cavaliers this season, grabbing 11 rebounds in 43 minutes, but he has not appeared in a contest since suffering an ankle sprain on November 16. "We are happy to have the ability to put Cedric in game situations like this," Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry said. "This gives Cedric a great opportunity to finish the last step of his rehab from his ankle sprain." Simmons, in his second season out of North Carolina State, was acquired by the Cavaliers in September from New Orleans for David Wesley.
Arguably he should be getting some PT for the Cavs, but regardless of that it can only be a good thing that he will be playing regular competitive basketball again. Hopefully he will work hard over the summer and come back challenging for a spot in Mike Brown's rotation.
I don't know precisely his ceiling, but I would think that if he was intensely coached he could have an all-star calibre season. That's probably a bit bold, but a reaslistic prediction is that he could probably be a solid starter in this leage, perhaps averaging 12 and 8 or so, depending on how his Free Throw shooting progresses (he shoots 39% for his career). So, if the trade was for this season, I would trade him for Boone, but I'm not sure what his ceiling his, or how easily it might be attained, so I can't really make a decision on whether I would actually make the trade.
