Malik Allen is also out tonight so he could have really shown something to the team.

He's still getting his $4M so why complain? Magloire was brought in mainly for insurance but he is like insurance that failed to fulfill its obligations. Once Boone and SWat get better in rebounding and they will, there's really no more use for Magloire.

    No, he's valuable.

    He's got a $4M expiring contract.

Lots of teams have players they don't want to pay that they would love to dump on the Nets, and the Nets certainly have holes to fill if they decide to keep the team intact.

I think he would already have been dealt if Thorn knew which direction he wanted to go.

Not sure about Barnes contract status, but that would be an absolute steal for the Nets.

Problem is that Barnes actually plays minutes, and plays Nellie's style as well.

I didn't know being a giant pouty baby was a reason to take a leave of absence but good riddance. Getting rid of that black cloud and the distraction that comes with it can't come soon enough for me.

I'm glad he wasn't here for the game last night because he would have been abused by the faster and more athletic Hawks front line.

Mags for Barnes is not even close to feasible. Just because his minutes have been cut down a bit he's still one of the most important pieces to that teams success after losing J-Rich last season. I know they have depth that can setup up but the stuff Barnes does on the court for that squad is infinitely more important to them than getting some tax relief. Heck they already have a lummoxing bigman in Mbenga and i'll go as far as saying he's as good if not better than Big Cat at the current time and he's cheaper.

maybe mags had a migraine. seriously i hope everything is ok with him or his family. personal reasons can mean many things, hopefully it is not something difficult he has to deal with.

im not totally in favor of trading magloire just to trade him. for one, like many have said and know, $4mil off the books next year is very sexy. 2, when playoff times comes its always great to have depth in the big department. if we play boston/orlando/cleveland mags could be used as either extra fouls or a big physical body. he hasnt been used for the most part of the year and the chances of him getting into playoff games are slim to none, but you never know what happens during the course of a year. if your bigs get hurt and you do not have any depth you are screwed. so ill only trade magloire if he brings in someone who frank WILL PLAY.

hahaha Maglorie cant even keep up with our offense forget Golden State's run n gun offense. I would love to see he attempt to play for the Warriors just so I can laugh at him.

well, as Net Income pointed out, anyone the Nets acquire won't play. Still, I'd welcome a Magloire-for-Rasual Butler deal. Butler could be a decent shooter off the bench, especially on days when Boki doesn't have it. I don't know how much defense he plays, though.

--by the way, is there anyone who DIDN'T see this coming when Magloire was signed?

I'd bet he was promised time coming in. Otherwise he could had signed elsewhere fro similar money.

I highly doubt that. He saw what happened with Mikki Moore last season and how Mikki got rewarded in the offseason. He probably thought that he could come and play with Kidd/Carter and get a big contract like Mikki. The difference is, Mikki actually worked hard and brought something to the team with his energy and hustle. Magloire can rebound sure, but other than that he's useless. His post moves are so slow that the defender often forces him into a travel or offensive foul. And let's not even get started on his hands. I haven't seen someone bobble the ball so much since Antonio Davis.

I wouldn't be opposed to trading him but not for the sake of trading him. Need to try to get something for him because worst case scenario is that he just leaves the team in the offseason. Also, as others have mentioned, it doesn't hurt to have depth upfront.
