    Hi,

What are some things you'd like to see in the MMA/boxing/combat sports section of this site?

Please let me know as we're building this part of S2 practically from scratch.

    Thanks,
    speeds

at first I thought this was a 'what would you like to see in the UFC next year' thread.
I was gonna say 'Knees to a grounded opponent' [IMG]

I think you're off to a good start. Here's a few things off the top of my head.
-The Top 6 listing is good, you should have a way to display it after each update then allow for feedback without the top 6 becoming muddled. Maybe a new post each time you do the rankings? Could go for ten but I guess listing the UFC fighters over and over due to a lack of big competition makes it less necessary to go so deep.

    - A fighter database would be kool, but sherdog handles that well enough so not sure how important it would be as it'd be a ton of work.

    - Keep posting the fight cards with predictions, we all love to look foolish in trying to predict the winners [IMG] . Maybe have a contest for any big cards or the UFC cards? Prize can be getting a custom sig of you fav fighter or perhaps a special sig that says you're the prediction champ.

    - training/nutrition section? For anyone who trains etc. I did Muay Thai for about a year but got lazy and then became a dad [IMG] [IMG]

I'm thinking making it a blog format would allow us to do that. I went six-by-six because I thought it would be unique, plus, as you said, the bottom five of a top ten are usually really subjective and dated.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>- A fighter database would be kool, but sherdog handles that well enough so not sure how important it would be as it'd be a ton of work.</div>

I'm not sure we can do exactly what Sherdog has, which is a massive reference, but we can at least do a listing of fighters with their weight class, record, camp, etc.. That's something I'd like to do, come to think of it. But for sure S2 needs to get tables going again.

Betting on fights is definitely something we're going to implement. We have to decide if we want to use sports ticker style odds out of Vegas or make our own. Additional rewards like signatures could be fun, especially since we can hotlink the pictures back to this forum.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>- training/nutrition section? For anyone who trains etc. I did Muay Thai for about a year but got lazy and then became a dad [IMG] [IMG]</div>

Probably something that could encompass more than just MMA. On BBB.net there was a section dedicated to training/fittness/nutrition so that is probably something we can bring back. It's just a notoriously inactive forum so if you want to create a thread here just for that subject I can pin it for everyone to see and contribute to, for now.

Thanks very much for the suggestions, keep them coming.

Really cant do that? I recall in the 1st one that used to happen a bit when a opponent was grappled to the ground.

Knees and kicks to the head of a grounded opponent were abolished by the Nevada State Athletic Commission at UFC 28 henceforth.

We need to get the wiki tuned, but I believe that could handle what you are talking about

Somehow, "knees" and "ground" drums up a picture of Petey, high school, and bullies.

Everyone adjusts in time. Guys that have come over from PRIDE (where soccer kicks and the like were allowed) have had more problems dealing with the size and athleticism of the UFC fighters than rule differences.

With the current rule system the styles are balanced and everyone seems to have an equal chance of winning. The scoring system is still a work in progress.

yeah the judges leave A LOT to be desired when it comes to recognizing good ground games. It seems if you're on your back, no matter how active or affective you are it's considered the weaker posistion and you lose. Even if that fighter is the one trying to get subsmissions etc.
It's a North American ignorance by casual fans and apparantly the judges.

so what's the wiki good for anywho? I haven't had a chance to try it out.

another thing we need is more MMA fans on this site. Sherdog and the mma.tv underground are the best and most active forums but the amount of trolls and plain idiots that permiate those sites makes me cringe. Really neanderthal level intelligence on there, mixed with some good knowledgeable ppl.

I wasn't even thinking of the betting but yeah that would work. I haven't used the betting options on here and just haven't had the time of late to even try and figure it out. sounds like it'd be kool though.

as for the database, you could do something more simple like what UFC offers.

the nutrition/training thing would be more active if there were more MMA fans on here. Check out sherdog's nutrition section, it's fairly active.
