    Nuggets have waived Bobby Jones

    http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008...nuggets-tipoff/

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Forward Bobby Jones said he was told late Sunday the Nuggets will release him after not being able to trade him.

Jones was in line to have his contract guaranteed for the season if not waived by 4 p.m. today.

"They told me it was a business decision," said Jones, informed by Nuggets executive Mark Warkentien he wouldn't travel with the team for its game tonight at Phoenix. "I understand. They said if something happens with injuries or at the trade deadline, they could bring me back."

Jones had about $410,000 left on his $687,456 deal. Because the Nuggets are deep into the luxury tax, they save about $820,000.

Warkentien said he would have no comment Sunday about Jones.</div>

    Dear Rod,

How would you like to replace Antoine Wright with a younger, cheaper player with the same skills? Or imagine resigning Wright and playing two lock-down defenders at the wings alongside Sean Williams and Josh Boone, with Daryl Armstrong at the point? It's enough to shut down and exhaust even the powerful Boston Celtics. Now you can! Sign Bobby Jones before it is too late. Act now!

    Love and kisses,

    Dumpy.

    Hey Rod...

You have about $400,000 to play with according to my calculations...or face the wrath of Ratner. He forked over almost $2 million to the Hornets in that crazy David Wesley for Mile Ilic and Bernard Robinson deal to avoid paying the luxury tax. He will get that back and more next July. It looks like each of the teams under the tax will walk away with about $2.5 million in tax receipts. Smart business move...give some of it to Bobby Marks as a bonus, why dontcha.

Now, what can you do with $400,000? Bobby Jones is a lockdown defender whose shooting ability is right up there with Dick Cheney. He would fit nicely under that $400,000. Do the Nets really need a lockdown defender who barely played in Denver because he couldn't shoot? Or do you wait to see who else gets cut today?

Here's a list of those who have to be waived today or get paid a full year's deal. Malik Allen is on the list, but we think he's cool.

    Atlanta - Mario West

    Boston - Leon Powe

    Denver - Bobby Jones (Waived)

Golden State - DJ Mbenga (Waived)

    Chicago - Demetris Nichols

    Houston - Carl Landry

    Indiana - Andre Owens

    L.A. Clippers - Richie Frahm

    L.A. Lakers - Coby Karl

    Memphis - Jeremy Richardson

Miami - Joel Anthony, Luke Jackson

    Minnesota - Chris Richard

    New Jersey - Malik Allen

    New Orleans - Ryan Bowen

Philadelphia - Louis Amundson, Herbert Hill

    Sacramento - Dahntay Jones

San Antonio - DerMarr Johnson, Keith Langford

Toronto - Darrick Martin, Jamario Moon

Now, not all those guys will be waived. Moon deserves a raise for God's sake. But a few of those dudes are enticing: Nichols, even though he is in the D-League; Richardson, even though he has done little since leading the D-League in scoring and Dahntay Jones, who we KNOW you once loved and would be a local favorite, being from Ewing. Leon Powe...intriguing.

Of course, none of them know the Nets' system and would be banished to the Nachbar Purgatory. Still, with 13 players under contract, you could give them a 10-day or two.

Or you could join the Boom Tho! Movement and bring back a player who knows the system. And there's always the Ghost of Christians Past: Allan Houston. (You want to piss off the Knicks--bring him back and have him hoist a few next week against New York. Who Owns New York? Oh yeah)

I think you have something up your sleeve, Rod. At least I hope you do. We await Thursday when all these guys clear waivers.

    Your friend,

    Bob

PS Don't let Kiki anywhere near the Republic of Georgia ever again.

DerMarr Johnson and Keith Langford (who?) just got waived by the Spurs...which means by Thursday, they will sign someone else, probably to a 10-day. They are thisclose to the luxury tax. That's why they traded Butler and the rights to Scola for the right to waive Spanoulis.

    Dear Rod,

I understand that a man calling himself "Bob" may have e-mailed you a list of players that may be waived this week by other teams. Don't be misled by that "Bob" guy (if that's really his name)! It is a red herring! There is no need to consider anyone other than the Brandon Roy stopper himself, Bobby Jones. He was considered the best on-ball defender in college when he entered the draft a few years ago. OK, so he can't shoot. It's not as if Coach Frank would ever play someone who can't defend, anyway. Golfer, right AND lefthanded baseball pitcher, NBA player in different generations--what a tremendous athlete this Bobby Jones is. I'm sure under the watchful eye of Bob Thate, his shooting touch will improve, as has Josh Boone's and Jason Coll---uh, never mind.

    Love and kisses, Dumpy.

p.s. I'm cool with that Benson guy, too. He's funny.

    Damn SportsTicker, it's PEG1<u>8</u>2!!! [IMG]

I'm still waiting for that all-SU team to happen in the NBA. When Jason Hart, Demetris Nichols, Carmelo Anthony, Hakim Warrick, and Etan Thomas are all on the same team, ooooh man. I will be a VERY happy man.
