The other day during the Miami-Dallas game the commentators were talking about who they thought the leader of the Mavericks was. They mentioned Nowitzki, Stackhouse, Terry and Howard. What do you think?

Dirk Nowitzki: The best player on the Mavericks but we've seen his meltdowns, calling Dampier out and getting pissy during the playoffs. He seems to be improving in that category but (I've met Dirk and spent a good few hours with him) he seems like a gentle kind of guy who is content with doing his own thing and just playing along. I do love the guy, he's the best player and we need him to be succesful but I don't think he's our vocal leader, which I can live with

Josh Howard: I think Josh Howard needs to work on his leadership skills, because I want to see him doing the inspirational talks within the next few years - Avery needs to work with him. In an interview Howard said he just wants to "lead by example" but he needs to start talking more. He also needs to go back to his bread and butter, what gave him playing time so he could develop an offensive game, his good defense - because as it stands he only plays lockdown D when he really needs to. I want Josh being the vocal leader

Jason Terry: Terry is basically the vocal leader of the Mavericks now and I'm content with that

Jerry Stackhouse: One of the commentators was saying he thought Stackhouse was the leader of the Mavericks which I disagree with. Stack has been playing terribly this season.

Then there are people like Eddie Jones and Trenton Hassell who have been brought in to be veterans and locker-room presences, but I think only Eddie Jones is doing it correctly.

Who do you think the leader ofthis Mavericks team is and what does he need to do

As a Mavs fan myself, I would love to say Dirk is the leader but no. There really is no leader imo. Terry is the closest thing to a leader only because when he says he gonna play well he actually does.
