    The Caps aren't a great team yet, but these are two of the most exciting guys in the league.

    No agent, either.

    I love the NHL trend of locking up players to 10+ year deals.

    It will only help to have star players identified with their cities.

    Other sports are trending the other way.

    I had the opportunity to see him play live for the first time over the break (went to an Islanders game). He's even more impressive closer up. The man's one of the best skaters on the ice (not just fast, but excellent control and acceleration) and he has a fiery competitive streak which you really love to see. The Isles were playing up on him and trying to prevent him from taking that one-timer from the point that he loves and it was working for a while. But he'd hustle his ass of every time the puck went the other way and was pesky on the defensive end. Eventually his work paid off and he scored the tying goal with like 50 seconds left.

    btw, that Backstrom kid is going to be a damn good player.
