I watched tonights title game and specifically focused on Glenn Dorsey....oh my! that guy is a beast....his final stats aren't anything to go crazy about(6 tackles, a sack, a ff), but he was a factor on almost every play....I never saw Ohio State's O-Line push him off the ball, he either held his ground or penetrated on every play....the DE next to him was having a monster game and I think Dorsey had a lot to do with it....when Ohio State ran the ball, they did it running away from him and all the plays they ran right at him, he plugged the hole....I now think hes a perfect 3-4 DE and his ability to hold his ground or move the line of scrimmage is exactly what you want your 3-4 DEs to do....no trade! draft him and line him up inside Jason Taylor and let the havok ensue....
During UVa's bowl game, the announcers stated that Al Groh (a friend of Parcells) said Chris Long was like Mike Vrabel. He'd be more effective occasionally playing OLB than lining up @ DT where he'd get worn down. I see Dorsey being like Warren Sapp in his prime. If Miami stays with the hybrid, they can't go wrong with either. Though, if they go full time 3-4 then Long might have an advantage. As long as both are off the board @ #9 when New England picks, I'll be okay w/ whichever of the 2 Miami selects. My initial preference was dorsey but changed during UVa's bowl game but like Beef I was really impressed w/ Dorsey. He opened things up for the LB's and gave the CB's time to essentially shutdown Hartline & Robiskie Parcells said he wants someone w/ passion and both have that. Lining up Dorsey next to JT would be intense and it would take some pressure off ZT.
Parcells likes big athletic players that care about football, so Dorsey qualifies....he played hurt all year and won a slew of awards for his play....Im most impressed with his ability to hold his ground, despite being slightly undersized for a DT....I think hes a perfect fit in a 3-4 as a DE, even though he hasnt played a lot in that alignment....hes an everydown D-Lineman that can hold his ground against the run and penatrate against the pass....thats a Parcells guy if ever there was one....
disclaimer: I agree w/ Beef that Dorsey is not an NT. I have been watching as replay of the Packers/9ers playoff game played on 1/3/99. Its one where Reggie White is playing and it got me thinking... When RW was with Philly, they used to line up in the bear 46 front w/ RW @ NT. Can you imagine, the phins (should they draft Dorsey) lining similarly w/ GD @ NT and Soliai & Fifita (I'm biased) @ DT? Lining up GD next to JT may be major havoc , the above idea would be like pi$$ing off Freddy Kruger, Jason Vorhees, & Jack The Ripper.
