I find PER to be a completely meaningless statistic, but much of what Hollinger is saying about Kidd is true. As amazing as they are, the triple doubles don't tell the whole story. Kidd's offense has fallen off dramatically. He rarely shoots or looks to score at all now, and when he does shoot it's usually an open 3. Kidd was never a great scorer, but he was never this bad either. He's clearly not the same player. He's getting the triple doubles because his basketball instincts are still there, but his skills are deteriorating. That being said, he's still a top player at his position and more deserving of an All-Star berth than Jose Calderon.
More deserving, or you're being bias? You're a Jason Kidd fan, so you think he is more deserving. Well, Kidd does a lot for his team and so does Calderon. As much as I would like Calderon to start, he won't. In fact, he might not even make it. Kidd will start or at least be ahead of Calderon on the All-Star team because Kidd is famous and a great point guard. But, to say he is more deserving because all you do is watch Jason Kidd is in some ways ignorant. To me, if you truly prove Kidd deserves the spot more then Calderon, I want to hear. I don't think Calderon should start, but if you ACTUALLY prove to me Kidd is more DESERVING, I would love to hear it.
Love Hollinger. Always good for a laugh. Seriously, how does this guy have a job? Go take your PER and shove it.

He probably is more deserving than Calderon, Shake. As impressive as Jose has been this year, he's not as important to the Raptors success as Kidd is to New Jersey's. Jose's only started about half of the games so far this season, so he has that going against him. And even though he's shooting way better and hardly turning the ball over, Jose gives up a lot of points on the defensive end. Its probably a case where Kidd's defensive attributes (rebounding, steals, actual D), and Calderon's lack thereof, make up for the fact that Jose's been much better on the offensive side of the ball. Hollinger exaggerates as usual, but I think he correctly points out that we can't keep putting Kidd on a pedestal as we used to. He's clearly aging, despite the triple doubles.
Like you said Chutney, in some cases Kidd is put up higher because who he is. Now, I'm not taking anything away from Kidd. He is a top 5 PG in the league and does so much and is a walking triple double. However, for me right now, I just don't think if it came down to just Kidd and Calderon (which it won't) Kidd is so much more deserving then Calderon. Kidd is an all-star for sure but I think Calderon's lack of being known hurts him.

I watch Kidd a lot, because I like to see how our rival plays and Vince Carter is one of my favorite players despite his stupidity in Toronto. I'm a Jason Kidd fan so I like to watch them play. What I have seen from Kidd, to me, doesn't make him more deserving then Calderon. Calderon has stepped up huge for the Raptors this year, and to me an back-up PG for the All-Star team would be something he has earned. Kidd has earned his spot too, but and All-Star game is about what has happen this year. And every year, players are voted in because of how well known they are on the most part. I can guarantee if Roger Mason Jr. averaged 22 points and 6 assists and 8 rebounds a game, he still wouldn't make the all-star team. Things like that, sometimes piss me off. Don't get me wrong, I love the All-Star game, but sometimes when a player gets voted because of how well they are known and they don't really deserve it (Dwayne Wade). I'm not saying Kidd doesn't deserve it, he does but I really believe that Kidd isn't so much more deserving this year then Calderon.

There hasn't been a more efficient floor leader this season and he's been one of the best offensive point guards in the league. But he's still not on the All-Star ballot. That said, I don't necessarily think that means he more deserving than Kidd.
Hollinger's method for making analysis and justifying said analysis is akin to a little child, where the child says "This-and-that because I think this-and-that." Hollinger gets paid to make ridiculous opinions, and justifies them using...his ridiculous opinions.
