<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd has a common refrain when asked about his pitching staff: There's never enough depth. To provide insurance and create competition, the Rockies signed right-hander Josh Towers on Saturday to a one-year deal worth a guaranteed $400,000 with a mutual option for 2009 at $3 million, according to contract information obtained by The Denver Post.

The Rockies have liked Towers since July, when they considered acquiring him from the Toronto Blue Jays. He went 5-10 with a 5.38 ERA in 25 games for the Blue Jays last season, including 15 starts, which explains why he's available at a clearance-rack price. However, he turns just 31 this month and won 13 games as recently as 2005, making him an interesting flier.</div>

I've always liked Towers. I wish him luck with the Rockies.

I liked him but his confidence got drained out way too fast.

Towers needed a change in atmosphere! ...I always thought after he had that first good season, we should have traded him for something we needed and signed Dave Bush... his stuff is awesome!!
