The 6-7, 215-pound Jones averaged 3.3 points and 1.4 rebounds in 23 games this season with the Denver Nuggets, who waived him on Monday. Jones, who originally was selected 37th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2006 and acquired by Philadelphia in a draft-day trade, has career averages of 2.8 points and 1.3 rebounds in 67 games over two seasons with the 76ers and Nuggets.</div> http://sportstwo.com/NBA/Story/NBA/1493284 Smart move by Chris Wallace. I just hope that they actually give the guy some burn, because I'm tired of watching Rudy Gay and Casey Jacobsen try to play defense, Gay especially. If Gay were a better defender, this team would be closer to the .500 mark than it is now, a lot closer. I can't tell you how many games the Grizzlies have let slip away because of Gay's lack of defensive effort. Jones may not be half the offensive threat that Gay is, but at least we don't have to worry about him on the other end of the floor.
I've been pimping this guy since he came out of UW. He plays fierce defense, good athlete, he refined his jumpshot this season so that he is adequate on offense. Shooting 39% from 3 and an excellent defender, he could be a very solid role player alongside Gay and Miller on the wing.
