To quote Ric Flair To be the man, you gotta beat the man. And Serra did beat the man.</div> Well, I'm biased. What can I say? Updated.
only person I can think of that should be there or has to at least be #7 is Rashard Evans.. being undefeated has to get you some credit problem is, who do you drop... should shake out after UFC 84 and 85 though. As good as the fights are for the Fight Night, I can only see kenny florian moving into the ranks with a win. Joe Lauzon probably not. ditto everyone else.
Yea, Rashad Evans, I guess is hard to fit in. Are all those lightweights actually better than Joe Stevenson, Kenny Florian, and Sean Sherk?
In the lightweight division there is a huge talent pool and Sherk hasn't even skimmed it yet. He needs to beat BJ Penn. The other two guys you mentioned are somewhere in the top-15 lightweights but they don't have the credentials to be on this list (I think).
actually it's hard to tell. A lot of hardcore MMA fans thought Pride was the better org for talent and then they came and fought in the UFC to mixed results with some excelling others getting their butt handed to them. I think if Sherk, Florian or Stevenson faced some of K-1's top LW's they'd do alright and probably Sherk, perhaps Florian could creep into the top rankings. After all Gomi lost to an up and down Nick Diaz, regardless of the atheltic commission overturning the results.
I of course have an issue with Torres being there at all and at #3 having fought on minor circuits the majority of his career, he's beaten up below average competition. If you're going to site his 32-1 record, I'd rather see oh Rashard Evansand his undefeated record there, at least he has faced top competition. but I wouldn't call him one of the best P4P. Loyoto Machida though... heck even Urijah Faber would be a better choice. If he wins the UFC LW title BJ Penn will need to be added too. all in all nice list.
Torres' single loss in 33 fights was avenged. He's dominated the division with 27 finishes in 32 wins. I'd love to see him fight Manny Tapia or Masakatsu Ueda, but for the time being he is the king of his weight class. It's hard to find guys with ten wins in his weight class, let alone over thirty. Pound for pound lists should include guys outside of the mainstream if they deserve it. When GSP beats Serra I think he can easily vault to the top of the list. He will have redeemed his loss and his record against ranked opponents is outstanding.
I'd keep Silva ahead of GSP even if GSP wins, just because Silva has been taking on top competition lately and defeating them quite nicely.
Yeah but GSP has done the exact same in the WW division. besides his 'upset' lose to Serra, he's dominated Matt Hughes twice and no one else has even been able to beat Hughes. He's beaten every contender out there except for Fitch, but if Kos and Hughes couldn't out wrestle GSP and keep him down, I don't see Fitch having much chance either. It's a close call between the two IMO.
I think a big difference between them is the competition they have faced. In his five fights with UCC/TKO, three of them were against veteran fighters in Thomas Denny, Pete Spratt, and Ivan Menjivar. Travis Galbraith and Justin Bruckman are both middle-of-the-road Canadian fighters but he finished them both quickly. Since then he's been in the UFC and hasn't had an easy fight. Silva has losses to a some mediocre guys in Daiju Takase, Luiz Azeredo and Ryo Chonan. He decision'ed Alexander Otsuka (4-13) and also has a DQ loss to Yushin Okami. GSP has a hard but justifiable loss to Matt Hughes that he avenged and a very bad loss to Matt Serra that he can still make up for. There is no doubt in my mind that Silva is a better fighter than GSP and would win if they fought, but his resume doesn't read the same as GSP's.
That Chonan loss was just an insanely out of nowhere submission that I think would have surprised anyone. I keep thinking back to GSP's win over Miller as Miller is the only fighter besides BJ to go to a Decision vs GSP. The UFC dropped the ball by letting him walk. I hope someday he returns.
Ok, GSP is back on top at 170 after pounding the hell out of Matt Serra last night. Predictably, Serra had nothing for him. Serra would be an underdog against any of the six welterweights I have on the list at the moment but he is probably top-10 in the world right now in that weight class. GSP also moves up in the P4P rankings, behind just Fedor and Spider.
I'm still not sold on Fitch for some reason.. I think GSP walks right through him and Kosh, Huges and Serra would beat him too IMO. I'm willing to admit I may be wrong, but I'd like to see him ste up beyond Diego and looks like he will.

Alves has to be ahead of Hughes, doesn't he?
