<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Cavs.com)</div><div class='quotemain'>The Cleveland Cavaliers today extended Head Coach Mike Brown’s contract. The announcement was made today by Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry. Brown is the winningest head coach in Cavaliers history with a .592 winning percentage (119-82). Brown has also won more playoff games (19) than any coach in Cavaliers history. The Cavaliers won their first Eastern Conference Championship last season and became one of only five teams to win at least 50 games in the last two seasons (Dallas, Detroit, Phoenix, and San Antonio).

“Mike Brown brings his high character, work ethic and talent as a coach with him to work every single day. He has been, and will continue to be, important to our continued growth as a basketball team as we work towards a championship,” said Ferry. ”Dan Gilbert saw this in Mike Brown on his 1st job interview two and half years ago and it is evident today more than ever.”

“While the stats show that Mike has been the most successful head coach in Cavaliers history, it is his great leadership and his un-flinching focus on our core values and identity that continue to make him the right guy for the job.”

Brown became the 17th Cavaliers Head Coach on June 2, 2005 and became the first Cavaliers head coach to win a playoff series in their first season. Brown came to the Cavaliers after serving as the associate head coach of the Indiana Pacers for two seasons and as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs for three seasons, including the Spurs 2003 World Championship season.</div>

I don't know what to say to be honest. I like Mike Brown as a character, and love what he has done for the Cavs defensively, but if this team is to seriously challenge for the Championship, they need to have someone behind them who knows about offense, rather than the "give it to LeBron" philosophy currently implemented. Ideally, they will bring in either a co-Head Coach who is more offensive minded, or a top assistant coach who can take over offensively. This isn't a bad move, necessarily, but they need to supplement it with a truly brilliant move.

Surprised to hear...his name was one that I kept seeing pop up on "coaches potentially on the hot seat' type lists

If there was anyone still holding out that Ferry shouldn't be fired, this should put you over the top

I'm just wondering what he did recently to warrant the extension. I have a hard time believing that the Cavs should've been worried about trying to sign Brown in an open market.
