I think we could potentially get him tonight.

QUOTE

Wasting little time in taking advantage of Dallas' divisional-round loss to the New York Giants on Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens and Atlanta Falcons both arranged for second interviews with Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, ESPN.com has learned.

Garrett was huddling with Ravens officials on Monday evening and is scheduled to travel to Atlanta on Tuesday morning, assuming he doesn't accept the Baltimore job before that. He becomes the first candidate to have call-back sessions with the Ravens and Falcons.

It is not known if other candidates have been contacted about follow-up sessions in Baltimore, but many in the league believe that, with Garrett free to accept the job, the Ravens could move quickly to try to strike an agreement with him.

The two sides previously met in Baltimore for several hours on Jan. 5, during the weekend in which the Cowboys had a first-round bye. Atlanta officials interviewed Garrett for four hours in Dallas on Jan. 4.

Under league rules, the Ravens could not meet again with Garrett until Dallas was eliminated from the playoffs, or in the "open" week between the conference championship games and Super Bowl XLII.

In all, the Ravens have formally interviewed five other known candidates: Indianapolis assistant head coach Jim Caldwell; Philadelphia secondary coach John Harbaugh; former Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan; New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer; and Cowboys assistant head coach Tony Sparano.

The agent for former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer said last week there were also preliminary discussions with his client. Schottenheimer reiterated over the weekend, however, that he is unlikely to return to coaching.

Baltimore players, particularly from the defensive side, have lobbied publicly for Ryan to get the job. But it's believed that owner Steve Bisciotti will go in a different direction. Ryan is thought to be a strong candidate in Atlanta, where team officials were very impressed with him. But the Falcons on Saturday hired New England college scouting director Thomas Dimitroff as general manager, and he will have considerable input into the coaching decision.

Given the struggles of the Ravens' offense the past several seasons, Bisciotti could be looking for a coach to remedy the shortcomings on that side of the ball. Of course, Billick earned his stripes as an offensive coordinator and, in his nine seasons, the Ravens never ranked higher than 14th in the league in total offense.

It has been said before, but I'll be shocked if Jerry Jones lets him leave. It is way to easy for him to can Phillips right now.

If he accepts, that would only mean that Matt Ryan would be on the Ravens radar... What a shame.

Jones says he'll match any B'mo offer, so I hear.

The question then becomes. "Ravens HC now, or Cowboys HC next year ?"

Ravens are 3 years away, Cowboys about 3 plays away.

By that measure I'd stay put in Dallas.

There's no evidence out there to where you can make that assumption right now.

Besides, I would rather take Ryan than any of the other QBs in first Rd. Player I wanted at 8 went back to college. One I really want us to take, is out of range.

Yeah, he said this, but Bisciotti can get into a bidding war with Jones. But there's no guarantee on being the Cowboys HC next yr. This is why Jones should have never put it out there that he could be next head coach in wait. Then going out and hiring Phillips in the process. Puts him and them in a bad spot. Dallas could go all the way next yr or do as well enough to where Phillips can't be fired.

Based on everything that's happened, he left Baltimore, and is still negotiating while on his way to ATL, where he will interview there. I think he's just weighing his options right now.

Those of who thought he'd stay, you're right. He just used the Ravens without needing to.

I hope Garrett likes being Jones' puppet for the next X amount of yr's.

Wade is now making the same as his assistant lol. He should just quit since Jason and Jerry are linked mouth to penis and he's "next in line."

Those who didn't want Garrett, John Harbaugh might end up being the coach now.

Boy am I glad he isn't with the Ravens. I didn't like the prospect of having an OC as the next HC. I think we are selling Ryan too short and should give him a chance. But Harburgh wouldn't be a bad choice since he has experience with defenses like the Ravens when in Philly.

IMO, the thought of him using the Ravens like that is insulting not only from an organization perspective but also as a fan. With him staying in Dallas, that almost guarentees that Phillips' days are numbered despite getting his team to the playoffs.

I'm intrigued by Harbaugh from what I have heard about his intensity and energy, and overall personally. But I don't know nearly enough about him. He's coached special teams and was part of a trio that coached the secondary this yr for the Eagles. That just makes it seem like a weird hire to me. I wonder he'll bring in Cameron as OC? I hope so.

Ryan's not getting it because they want some fresh faces in the organization. No traces of Billick left.

JG got a substantial raise from Jerry... isn't that what really counts? [IMG]
