What do you guys think of this trade? To Rockets: Kwame Brown To Lakers: Mike James Chuck Hayes Why for Lakers. A combo guard back up who can provide a real spark off the bench. Capable of averaging 18 points a game citing his toronto days. When given freedom. Also, we get a rebounding PF who doesn't have a great post game but can get our guards the ball when Bynum is out. Why for Rockets:A PF, who may be able to thrive beside Yao Ming.
Useless trade for both teams IMO. Mike James has been crap this season and carries a terrible contract. Kwame Brown isn't much of an upgrade for the Rockets at power forward either.
Yes, but Kwame is an upgrade and is younger. While, Mike James can be effective in a sixth man role and given the ball. Hayes would further help the rebounding for this team.
We lose really the only center on our active roster in that trade and don't get one back. That pretty much kills this trade. Maybe if we had Bynum we do this, but otherwise, it's pointless.
The Lakers don't need a guy like Mike James who takes away minutes from Java and Farmar. To me, he would bring the team down and not add pretty much anything. Hayes on the other hand, I wouldn't mind, but only if Bynum was okay. Hayes would bring a lot to the PF position even as a back up.

If we do this, we could waive james to cut salary and still have a PF to replace Kwame
James' salary would count against the cap. The Bulls traded Eddie Curry for Tim Thomas and then bought him out. The buy out accomplished two things: 1) It saved the bulls some money, assuming the buyout was for something less than the money owed on the contract. 2) It gained the bulls a roster spot so they could sign someone else. If Thomas made $14M and the Bulls bought him out for $1M, he'd still count $14M against the cap. Chris Webber's $20M salary for this year (I think he's on his final year) counts against Philly's cap space still! Or at least it did last year, tho Webber played for the Pistons.
Horrible trade for the Lakers. We have enough point guards on this roster with Fisher, Farmar, and Crittenton. We don't need Mike James and his huge contract, and we don't need him chucking up shots either. Chuck Hayes doesn't really provide us anything. I'd pass
Any player you waive counts against the cap. The only exception was that one year, when the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) was renewed and there was a One-time exception that a team could waive 1 player and it would not count against the cap. It was called the Allan-Houston rule, because he was the player expected to be waived, although I think NY used it on Jerome Williams. I forget which players were waived, I know Michael Finley was.
