<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Webber's New Home? The Los Angeles Lakers were rocked by the knee injury to Andrew Bynum. While eight weeks sounds like a long time, the franchise is just happy the damage was not nearly as serious as it could have been.

The timeline for Bynum's recovery is padded to make sure Bynum is completely sound before returning. Don't be surprised if he's not itching to get back on the court in five weeks or so.

In Bynum's absence the Lakers appear close to signing free agent Chris Webber.

Word is that the Lakers have reached out and a source close to the situation says that Webber has responded positively. While he still is going through the motions of courtship, there's a good chance he ends up a Laker in the coming week.

Webber had a long list of teams that he was supposedly in negotiation with but the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic have both publicly made indications that he's not a consideration. Apparently Webber would rather play for a contender in LA than a team like the Miami HEAT who are no longer an attractive option considering their record.

With word breaking that Vladimir Radmanovic may be out a couple more weeks (ankle), the Lakers certainly need the help. Webber can play either power forward or center. LA only has 14 on the roster so waiving a player is not an issue.

While the Lakers are still awaiting Webber's decision - it looks like it's just a matter of time before he joins the squad.

The Lakers have also contacted PJ Brown - who fits the defensive mindset the team has forged this season - but he's still holding out to see what the Chicago Bulls do at the deadline. Brown could end up prospering from a sign-and-trade for a lot more should the Bulls actually trigger something big. Whether they do or don't is immaterial - it's in Brown's best interest to wait before accepting the league minimum the Lakers have to offer.</div>

I really hope this deal is done by the time our road trip is in swing. I'm guessing he's in great shape as he said he'd be back on the court in two weeks time.

This is definitely something the Lakers need to get done. Our frontcourt is thin and he'd definitely help us out, giving us a solid post option, as well as a good rebounder.

Tyrus Thomas and a re-signed PJ Brown for Odumb.

Well I'm kind of interested in this deal. I liked Tyrus A LOT last season, the guy was making plays left and right. I don't really know what happened this season, but the guy has regressed. Although I cannot blame him, the entire Bulls roster seems to have regressed. Anyways, we'd essentially be dealing Odumb for Tyrus straight up, and at this point, I don't really see that benefitting us. Maybe if you throw in Joe Smith....

I don't know if you're kidding around or not because I don't get any Bulls coverage other than what makes L.A. headlines but what is the deal with Thomas? I was reading that they're fielding offers for him? Does he have attitude issues? He hasn't panned out? Just a wasting away on the bench?

Thomas isn't a good fit in Chicago, personality-wise. They are indeed shopping him, so I hear.

If you can get the Chicago out of him, he may pan out. He's a nasty shot blocker and decent enough rebounder... Along with PJ, you'd be in good shape behind Bynum. That and PJ is from Louisiana and was a good influence on Thomas last season...

I heard he has some attitude issues, but I'm not sure how accurate the reports are. Apparently the guy has never sprinted ever since coming into the NBA, instead he just jogs or walks. He looked great last season though, and showed tons of potential. I have no idea what happened to him, I also don't know what happened to Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, and the Chicago Bulls

Also, I was sorta kidding. I read the article, and it talked about PJ waiting around for a big payday in a S&T scenario. It could happen tomorrow with the trade I proposed. I had to come up with someone on the lakers with salary to match PJ getting a big deal.

PJ Brown is not coming though, he retired. Maybe if you throw in Joe Smith. I'm willing to get rid of Odumb for anything at this point, I'm just sick of having him on this team.

Don't we have an salary exception? How do those work? I thought we got one from Orlando.

There are some common misconceptions about non-simultaneous trades. For one, teams cannot use a Traded Player exception to sign free agents; it can be used only to acquire existing contracts from other teams. For another, teams cannot combine a Traded Player exception with other exceptions (such as the Mid-Level exception or the 125% plus $100,000 margin from another trade) in order to trade for a more expensive player. For example, a team with a $1 million Traded Player exception cannot combine it with their $2 million player to trade for a $3 million player (see question number 72 for more information on combining exceptions).

Craig Sager just reported that the Lakers would pay a prorated salary of 1.2 million over the rest of the season if negotiations do work out.

Webber's agent said that he's ready to pass a physical!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!

This sound like good news and I hope that Mitch can make this happen. Webber would be a great addition
