<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"You know, this kid can be great," said John Lucas, the legendary coach and player who is working with the Nets' second-year point guard this week. "He's got some great talent. You know, point guards are born, they're not made. He's got all the instincts to play the position. There are mostly combo guys playing (the position) now. Jason Kidd is a pure point. But (Marcus Williams) has a chance to be that way." -- The Star-Ledger</div>

I've only posted about 100 times that he would average double digit assists as a starter in the NBA. Your ad hominem attacks only make you look even more immature than usual, and that's saying a lot.
I think the goal down the road should be to get Marcus around 16-18 mins a night that way Kidd is always fresh and can really push tempo at all times.
The guy was hired to build up Marcus' confidence... he's saying exactly what he should be saying. I think we all know Marcus has the natural talent to be great, the issue is between the ears and whether or not that will develop enough to match the natural talent. Which is pretty much what Lucas is saying beneath the headline. I hope Lucas can push the right buttons and get Marcus on track and adjusted to the NBA game.
The only thing about Marcus is when IS he going to be a starter? I would love to see him out there with Boone and S.Williams but it seems like J-Kidd can be like Stockton and play into his 40's. I'm not saying that Kidd shouldn't start at all though IMO Kidd is THE best point guard of all time.
remember the double ot game vs the suns last year? i wish we could see more out of marcus like that performance, he kept us in that game

He also had a bad attitude at Seton Hall as evidenced when he punched a teammate. We didn't find out the greater scope of his mental illness until he was in the NBA. But if he didn't have these problems he could have been a great player.
Stockton averaged 24 a night towards the end. So Kidd would have to start seeing his minutes controlled nightly.....soon.......

The point is you don't bring in Lucas to rehab a player...at least not physically. You bring him in as your "tough love" coach and that hardass workout Williams got has to do with establishing a rigor so he can work on the issues that matter, and they are not physical. The kid has the physical gifts, but he hasn't quite got the mental ones. UConn coach Jim Calhoun writes in his new book that in spite of everything, Williams was the most "emotionally stable" of the five players drafted from his 2005-06 team and that's why he performed better than the others in the NCAA's. Boone, he writes, was always worried about whether he should come out for the draft...and his lack of concentration hurt the team in the NCAA's. Boone in fact had played well in the Final Four in his freshman year, so it wasn't a lack of big game heart.

Stockton didn't come off the bench in his later years, neither will Kidd, and Stockton was 41. Kidd has held up better than Stockton and he loves the game, so he'll probably be around until 44. (probably on 24 mpg though) By then Marcus will have retired, being known as Kidd's backup.
i give up on this Kidd, he's not a good PG. what are the odds that lowry, Farmar and Rondo all turn out to be the better players over our own damn pick. the nets are cursed
