The injury to Ariza just added a new twist on any possible moves for the team. It didn't make sense for them to bring anyone in last week because the Lakers didn't have any games over the weekend. They're probably looking at 10 day contract types at this point and want to maximize those 10 day contracts by having a live body available for the most amount of games.

That could be pretty interesting. He's got another three years left after this season (at about $10.5mil, $11.5mil, $12.2mil). Outside of Miller (and who knows how long he'll be there for), he's the only 'big' contract on their books for next season.

I'm not sure how much of a part of their rebuilding plans he is, but if they wanted to move him, I'm sure they'd want to get some more cap space to work with, which Brown would give them. I think the Lakers would have to add someone else and/or cash to make it work.

From the Lakers side of things though...thats kind of a big commitment for him. What would be the plan once Bynum is back?

I read on CL someone said that they're going to sign Mbenga to a 10 Day contract. I think he is going to play tonight.

And no to Sammy D. Buss would be crazy to be paying a backup center, once Bynum comes back, a 10 million a year. Bynum dismantled him the last time they met. Dalembert had 6/2 while Bynum had 17/16 and 3 blocks.

I'm all for passing on Webber if DJ can be a defensive anchor in the middle. We're not asking him to be Bynum, we're asking him to convert on the open layups/dunks that Kwame can't. That's all. Some of you guys are being a little overly critical.

    I like Run's assessment about his defense.</div>

Hes probably not your guy then. As bad as Kwame is at catching and finishing, DJ is one of the worst I have seen. Made me wish he had Foyle's offensive game LOL. Granted Baron, Jackson and the rest make some sketchy ass inside passes, DJ fumbled a ton of them and has NO touch or moves at all. He can give you 10-15 mpg but his impact will really only be on defense. On offense it'll be like playing 4 on 5.

IMO the Lakers would be better off trying to sign a Jackie Butler or Michael Olowakandi. Someone who's been in the league, you know they can produce in spot minutes, and they'll be cheap. They have their negatives but for now you're just trying to find a stop gap and they may even end up being surprisingly good since they know this may be their last opportunity to get consistent minutes and prove they can play and get a contract next season. You could even nab buys like Jelani McCoy, Elton Brown, Rod Benson etc. from the D-League for 10 day contracts to see if they can play.

No to the Kandi Man. That's like having a second Kwame on this team, one is enough.
