Why does this team always struggle to find a winning formula and their identity? Going back to the 04/05 season they get off to a terrible start because of injuries and the team going through a retooling phase. But eventually they get their crap together and finish the season strong. Then the following 05-06 season, they get out to a slow 9-12 start but then they go on a 10 game win streak and later follow it up with a 14 game win streak. Then the 06/07 season comes along and its the same shit again. They struggle throughout the season and suffer injuries but eventually finish the season strong. A new season has begun! 07/08 baby! Oh wait, same shit again. They struggle early and are inconsistent again!

I'm so sick of hearing every season the same crap of them having to find their way as a team etc etc etc. It's like they were all just assembled a few minutes ago and never played winning basketball together before. You see the Detroit Pistons who come in season after season and know what they need to do to win from the get go. But for the Nets it's like a treasure hunt. It's like oh well it's just the beginning of the season or we're just half way done but there is still another half to get this ship turned around! Injuries have played a part in it but they've found ways before to win through injuries as well. It's so troubling that they come into every season trying to figure what works as if they never experienced what works before.

I'm going to post some videos from when the Nets were playing some good basketball so we can see what they did to play well and what are some differences from now.

Here are the 1st quarters from the start of their 10 game win streak in the 05/06 season.

Jason Kidd is ideally suited for an offense that distributes the ball evenly and relies on fast break attempts coming off of defensive stops.

Vince Carter is one of the best iso-players in the league, who tends to fall asleep on defense and refuses to run the court.

And you wonder why the team has identity problems?

The Pistons have had elite big men in Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace, and McDyess to back them up. The best big men the Nets have for this season and the last 3 are Mikki Moore, Sean Williams, Jason Collins, Josh Boone, and Krstic. None of those players would even get any minutes with Detroit (similar to Milicic).

The only problem with that theory is that the Nets have shown they can win and be a good team with Kidd and Carter. And even that 03/04 Nets team got off to a slow start where they were 7-11 and 21-20 at different points during the season before they turned it around.

It's something else with this team to start the season. Maybe it's some complacency issues they have. Or maybe before they come into training camp they all collectively hit their heads on something and get stricken with amnesia.
