    God damn...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Philip Rivers' anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee is “totally gone” and he will have reconstructive surgery soon.

The recovery time for the surgery is not known but Rivers said he definitely will be 100 percent by the start of next season.

Meanwhile, Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson said his sprained MCL will not require surgery. About four weeks rest should be enough to heal the injury that kept him out of all but the first two offensive series of Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

“It's just time,” Tomlinson said. “It's not going to require surgery. Most of these injuries, when you have a sprained MCL, it takes four weeks.”

Rivers played the entirety of the Chargers' 21-12 loss to the New England Patriots with a right knee with no ACL. He revealed Monday he had arthroscopic surgery last Monday to clean out loose cartilage and enable him to play.

“If I don't do that Monday, I had no chance of playing,” Rivers said. The San Diego Union-Tribune first reported Friday that Rivers had injured his ACL, but the extent of the injury was not known until today.

“The ACL is gone,” Rivers said.

Until Sunday night, Rivers and the team said his injury was just a sprained MCL.</div>

Damn, that's ridiculous. Hopefully this doesn't have any lasting effects on Rivers.

All this means is that his career will be that much _shorter_. He had better get it done soon. Terrell Davis, anyone?

This isnt career threatening for a pocket passer....he's proven he can play with pain, and I think he took the final step yesterday in making this his team(step aside LT, your pouting didnt help)....hes going to be the QB there for a long time....

It's al lot different for a QB to come back from an ACL injnury than a RB. Terrell Davis is a terrible, terrible comparison. Also, you can't compare him to McNabb and Culpepper because those two QB's were very mobile, Rivers is the furthest from them.

Didn't John Elway have an ACL injury once? Hell, just recently Carson Palmer shredded every ligament in his knee, if the Bengals had any sort of defense, they'd be fine. I don't see Rivers' career shortening at all. He looked pretty damn good out there Sunday for a torn ACL, just coming off arthroscopic surgery 6 days earlier, and a sprained MCL in both knees. He'll be fine. ACL injuries are a peace of cake for doctor's today, it just comes down to the athlete and how hard they're willing to work during rehab. Rivers has a work ethic that should not be contested by anyone, he'll be fine baby!

McNabb and Culpepper put their bodies in danger more because they run more; running QBs have a history of injury problems.

McNabb has been injury prone and Culpepper tore three ligaments. Carson isn't the most mobile guy and he mostly recovered from his knee problem. Rivers' should be fine, it is hard to predict how much a career is cut short by injury. I don't think anyone is ready to make a claim that Rivers' career is egregiously shortened.

I wish Rivers all the best. Knee injuries slow people down, regardless of what your position is. Just hope that he doesnt have it happen again. I recall Rod Woodson finally calling it quits because of the pain. Pain is not dependant on what position you play. Woodson has so much knee surgery that his knees were eventually bone on bone, held together with cadaver ligaments. It pains me to even think about it.

Elway played his whole career with no ACL.

However, that's a LOT different than playing a week after having it removed.

It's definitely a big risk doing this kind of stuff. Knee injuries are serious. I'd recommend not doing it.

"If you're gonna be dumb you gotta be tough."

I think in Rivers' case "dumb" and "a jackass" are interchangeable.
