Mohamed Sanu from South Brunswick has started off the 2009 class for Rutgers. At 6'3" and 210 lbs, he has a chance to be a great safety. His family moved here from Africa, so he's already 19 years old. Because of this, he will either 1) Stay at SB but bypass his senior year on the football filed or 2) Go to a prep school, maybe Peddie. UConn, Penn State, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and North Carolina are all some schools he was receiving interest from, but with it being so early in the class of 2009 recruiting process, Rutgers was the only one to offer so far. He got the offer on Saturday at the Junior Day at Rutgers, and committed last night.

    S. Brunswick's Sanu commits to Rutgers | The Star-Ledger

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Thanks to a unique situation, Rutgers picked up its first football recruit for 2009 when junior Mohamed Sanu of South Brunswick High School gave the Knights a verbal commitment.

Sanu, a 6-2, 195-pounder, starred at quarterback and safety last fall for head coach Rick Mantz. Though a junior academically, Sanu's age will make him ineligible for high school football this year (he will be able to practice with the team but can't play in games). He will enroll early at Rutgers in January of next year, Mantz said.

"He's an incredible athlete," Mantz said. "He has a cannon for an arm. He can even punt a football 70 yards. He's a good-sized kid who can play almost anywhere and he has the desire to succeed."</div>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Susan promised to keep an eye on Sanu and, true to his word, offered the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder a scholarship two weeks ago to play quarterback.

Prelewicz also remembers the first time he heard about one Mohamed Sanu.

"Chris Nee, my old line coach, was a physical education teacher at the middle school when Mohamed was in the eighth grade," Prelewicz explained. "He called me up and said "you got to see this kid. He looks the prototypical quarterback right now.' I met Mohamed that summer, he had a great attitude, I could tell he was a great kid and I thought then he could be special."

Sanu, who had made visits to Rutgers and UConn, was only offered a scholarship by Rutgers, but was expected to receive offers from Penn State, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Temple, Syracuse, Iowa and others.

"Rutgers, Syracuse, UConn, Georgia Tech and a few others wanted me as a quarterback," Sanu said. "That's was my goal, my dream, to play quarterback at a major college. I jumped at the Rutgers offer. I love the environment there, I love the way coach (Greg) Schiano has built the program and I want to be a part of what's going on there."</div>

This is interesting because I was under the impression he was offered as a safety. I wonder how hard we go after Savage now, though. Would still love to get him as I think Sanu will still make a terrific safety.
