Green wants to be traded, we want to trade odom... why not:

Trade Odom for Green + Ratliff's expiring

    it works btw: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trad...p;te=&cash=

Then since earlier in the season there was a chance that Elton Brand wanted out (opt out or whatever but im positive that i read the article) and was/would/could consider moving to the Lakers.

So Ratliff's expiring would give us 11 M in cap space, but that wouldnt be enough to offer Brand, and yet we still have to sign Bynum.

Ok so remember the big black dude that has tiny hands? his name's 9M right? oh my bad, his name's Kwame.

Anyhow, both his names are useful in this plan:

So we let '9M' expire from our books (hoping that no one would pick him up) then resign him to 2M a year in case we need a big body.
    or
We trade Kwame + Vlad + a 1st maybe to the Clippers for Brand. Replacing Brand would be better than letting him walk away IMO.
BTW this trade also works: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trad...p;te=&cash=

So our current payroll would be:
Kobe(19M) + Fisher (4.3M) + Walton (4M) + Turiaf (800k, should resign him for 3M IMO) + Ariza (3.1M, resign to a little less) + Farmar (1M) + Critt (1.2M) + Karl (400k) + Mihm or Kwame(2.5 M expiring BTW, should we trade kwame then we should really resign him to less around 2M) + Sasha (1.8M) + Bynum 2M (we resign him for 10M which would kick in the year after next) + BRAND (15M) + Green (1.5, resign to around 2M)

*Bold figures are the numbers i considered for the cap after we resigned the valuable players.

That would total 56.8 M!!! 1M over the Cap
    - if we sign Bynum at 10M a year yes it would put us over the cap but it would equal to how much we are paying right now! LOL and of course the F.O would gladly pay 11 M in luxury tax for a lineup of:

    Starters:Fisher, Kobe, Walton, Brand, Bynum
BN:Farmar, Critt/Green, Ariza, Turiaf, Kwame or Mihm, (Hell with a lineup of this we could even affor to let go of Sasha)

Hold your horses! i know what your thinking... This guy should be really high on something right? maybe! but i just want you to get that this really has a chance.

Why for the Clippers? Well for one Brand is unhappy and an organization would have to be st*pid to let someone like him walk away for nothing.

Its like its either you get 15M in cap space in brand opting out or a 9M expiring big body on kwame and a shooter in vlad.

We could even have Green included( to compensate for the loss of Maggette who wants more money or else is walking out). Think about it clipper fans? If maggette does walk out for nothing you would have 6.5M in cap space and an up - coming star in g. green. Wont you be happy with a YOUNG and TALENTED lineup of:

Livingston, Geen, Thornton, Vlad or Kwame, Kaman + BN: Knight, Mobley, Thomas, Dickau, Davis, Williams, Ross + 1st rd picks and tons of cap space!

Yea its a work in progress but that lineup is a good mixture of vets and young players and has a ton of potential.

    Thoughts?

HAHA great minds think alike. I had NO IDEA you posted this before me, and we have the SAME EXACT trade.
    Way to go Kobe23!

The only thing I don't agree with you there is I say start Gerald Green at SF RIGHT AWAY! I think he is even better than Ariza, and Ariza can be Kobe/Green's full time backup.

And then when you realize that we'd have zero cap flexibility and three players on max or near max deals, you realize that it wouldn't work too well when we have to resign Farmar (who's going to ask for a heavy chunk of change if he keeps progressing) and the fact that Brand will probably be looking for more than $15mil per year. He'll probably be looking more towards JO salary, which I believe is right around $20mil. I highly doubt this deal would ever happen, and if it did, as much as I'd love it, I don't see the front office doing so because we'd have little cap flexibility unless either Bryant, Brown or Bynum were willing to take a paycut for the expense of winning.

Brand recently said he's not opting out.

I'm not sure about this deal. I know Odom has been struggling since Bynum went out, but when Bynum was healthy Odom was doing very well for us as the 3rd option.

It's too, late in the season to acquire a young player like Gerald Green. He's a phenomenal athlete, but he doesn't have the bball IQ or experience to crack the rotation and give us consistent production.

Theo Ratliff is Mr. Glass and would be Brian Grant 2.0

Basically we're trading Odom for two expiring contracts, which I don't mind so much, but that means we won't do much this season.

Why would Minny want to trade Ratliff's contract???

Bryant WILL take a paycut when they resign him... from his 19M a year, it'll go down to 13 - 15M a year when he resigns a contract. He's good but he'll turn 32 by that time

Brown??? As in Kwame? LOL! We dont need to ask him to take a pay cut... he'll voluntarily do it to stay a laker

Bynum? Well we WONT give him a max deal unless the F.O. is stupid (business wise i mean)

*Note: Bynum's raise, Kobe's Contract extension, Farmar's and Turiafs i think all come within 1 year of each other. Im positive that Kobe WILL take a paycut!

I actually meant Brand, what can I say, we all mistype things on occasion. And even if Kobe takes a paycut, he's still looking at probably $15mil per, which is a lot of money, and by that time, Bynum will likely be on a massive deal as well, and we'd also have to find room for Farmar. In all, snagging Brand just won't work. We'd have no cap flexibility and we'd be paying a huge amount in luxury taxes.

LOL i was kidding bro! i knew you meant brand.

Boston is paying luxury tax and look where they are now? Come on! Do you think paying luxury tax is worth it for KG, Allen and Pierce and not for Kobe, Brand, Bynum? we are the LA Lakers! We have money! thats what were known for! LOL

Mark my words! Bynum WONT get a maxed out deal... He'll get something like Kaman's (10 - 13M a year)

Kobe (15M resigned) + Brand (15M retained and extended contract, brand would be happy with 15 a year of he's playing with us!) + Bynum (13M) = 43M

12M under the cap... and say we are willing to pay 8 - 10M in cold hard luxury tax... thats about 20M for signing our other players. (Farmar at 5M, Critt at 5, etc etc etc)

Bottom line: Money = A championship team, LA = Truckload of Money [IMG]

Kobe won't re-sign for $15 million/year, he's got one more big contract in him, you can believe it'll be around $19-$23 million/year.

I do agree with you on Bynum, I think he'll see anywhere from $10-$13 million/year.

Farmar and $5 million/year? If Kwame Brown is raking in $9 million this year, you can best believe that Farmar is going to be somewhere in that range.

You think these players love it so much here in L.A. that they won't bail out for more money somewhere else? The only two players I see sticking around are Kobe and Bynum for sure, probably Turiaf as well.

Farmar hasn't gotten to the point of being worth 9 mill yet. I think around 5 mill.

Oh, for sure right now he isn't, but his contract runs through 2010/2011, correct? By the time that's up, he could be a legit 17 and 5 guy.

My bad i thought Farmar was up for a raise next year...

Kwame's contract was a mistake [IMG]

And yeah, Farmar will accept 5M a year if Luke is paid 4M a year. Farmar's skill level imo has a ceiling

KB24, similar to Duncan, will take a paycut

For Elton Brand, the Lakers make more sense than staying with the Clippers. He doesn't have to go anywhere for one thing, and he will come in LA and be an instant starter for a championship contending team. In Clipperland, the only thing they have worthwhile is Chris Kaman. Brand says he's happy in Clipperland, but I bet he won't be in a Clipper uni next season.

Where do you guys suppose we get the money for Elton Brand? He's already stated that he's not opting out. He's loyal to the Clippers organization, he doesn't want to leave.

I really don't see how you think Farmar will accept a $5 Million/year type of deal when his contract is up, he's already a much better player than Luke. He's a game changer, a pace setter, instant offense off the bench.

I think you're living in some fantasy land if you expect Farmar to settle for $5 million/year, Kobe to take a pay cut when he knows damn well the Lakers will fork over $19-$23 million/year. The team is already a championship contender when fully healthy, Kobe doesn't really have any incentive to take a pay cut.

You just answered your initial question... Their in La - la land remember? Lakers income is far greater than Lakers expenses.

Ok so maybe Farmar can get around 6 - 8M (would be the MAX and he should be playing ala tony parker to get this, which i doubt! he is best playing OFF THE BENCH) ... We could easily afford that once we cut Karl and Vujacic, and send Green or Ariza to the Clippers

+1, i agree with you on everything. Why do you think Brand is such a great player? hustler? hard worker? dont you think all that dedication is for something? Maybe just maybe he might want to win a ring just like the 3 players wearing green in the east right now.

when your a superstar like kobe, brand, kg, lebron... once you have the money it wont matter that much anymore until you've won yourself a ring.

You don't understand that we're over the salary cap, we don't have the money to sign Elton Brand if he opts out, which he won't. It doesn't matter how much money you bring in, if you're over the salary cap...you can't sign anyone! You only have the MLE!!!

Send Green or Ariza to the Clippers? What the hell are you talking about? What kind of drugs are you on? Are you suggesting that Trevor Ariza or this so called Green player, that we don't have and there is no guarantee of us signing or trading for can land us Elton Brand in a trade? You've got absolutely no concept of how money works, do you?

LOL! We don't have to re-sign Farmar until the end of the 2010/2011 season, if he's not the starter by then, then he shouldn't even be in the league! If you think that Farmar won't be starting by hell, maybe even next year, then I seriously question your ability to evaluate talent. Farmar is this team's future starting PG if he keeps improving at this rate, he'll be in line for a nice raise when it comes time to re-sign him. 8 Million is not a max for Farmar, it's a minimum if he keeps on improving his game.

Please, stop posting in here if you don't have any idea of the SALARY CAP.

Kobe's got 3 rings last time I checked, so again...what's his reason for taking an unexplained pay cut? If he opts out of his contract it's either a) He wants to sign somewhere else, or B ) he wants a salary increase.

Dude... did you read my WHOLE POST?

Elton Brand is merely PART 2 of the PLAN!

Part 1 is ODOM for Green and Ratliff's EXPIRING! Thats 11M off our books!

We are currently 10M over the cap!

That is where Kwame's expiring comes in! We either trade him + Vlad for EB or let him go and use the money to sign EB. (At this point we are WELL UNDER THE CAP)

Dude thats why i said it was a plan! not one trade... wtf?

BTW Critt is the future for me
