I'm very new to the UFC and MMA in general, so I was wondering who some good fighters are to follow? I've seen a lot of clips on youtube and I know the popular fighters, my interest right now are: Chuck Liddell (how can you not know him?) Dan Henderson Wanderlai Silva Sokoudjou Anderson Silva Houston Alexander Rampage For you more experienced MMA fans, how would a Henderson/Liddell matchup be if Hendo moved back up to light heavy? They both have dynamite fists, could Hendo take Liddell?
I'm not that big of a UFC fan. But what I do know is, Dan Henderson and Rampage are crazy when it comes to fighting.
first off welcome to a great sport. I got back into MMA after catching the first season of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike. When I found out Randy and Chuck were gonna fight each other after the season I had to see that PPV. Since then I've been into MMA as much as basketball. Dan Henderson is as tough as they come. When he fought in Pride the majority of his career there were two weight classes or one. So he fought guys much bigger than him and as skilled but he's only lost 5 times in 7 years in Pride and only 2 of them have been stopped. Both times is was a submission and it was the Nogeuira brothers who defeated him. Of course 'Minotauro' is a HW and fighting for the HW title. His brother is a 205er. So yeah Dan Henderson could be Chuck but I think Chuck has the better striking... Dan is the tougher fighter. It'd be a great fight. Some other guys to watch. George St.Pierre. He's an athletic freak at 170 and if he hadn't of got caught by Matt Serra last year and lost the title we'd be talking about his dominance at 170 too. Watch for the rematch in April. Clay Guida. He has a losing record in the UFC, but damn if every single fight he's in isn't great. Guy has cardio for days and never stops coming at you. Last year his fight with Tyson Griffin had me and my friends jumping off the sofa it was so wild. BJ Penn. Go to youtube and type in penn vs gomi and enjoy.... Gomi was the reigining champ in pride and was destroying everyone when they met. Nate Diaz. both he and his brother Nick have a unique striking and grappling style. I found it interesting to watch and both guys are tough as hell. Nearly impossible to submit and can take a punch as well as anyone. Spencer Fisher. another tough SOB who fights to win and almost always give an action packed fight. Matt Hughes. St.Pierre has his number but no one else does. He's still one of the top 170 pounders but he's also thinking of retiring... we'll have to wait and see. those are a few really good fighers, but just watch some of the Spike fight nights and the upcoming PPV's you'll discover which guys you like and don't. Looking forward to your contributions to the mma section any other questions fire away.
What are some good MMA websites to keep up on the news? Right now, I go to mmafightline.com Thanks for all the info! I saw GSP's last fight and he just dominated Hughes. I didn't get a chance to order Penn's last pay per view, I really wanted to but I had to work. I'll search online for some of these other fighters, thank you!!!
well i use mmaweekly for my news, their rumors section has the upcoming fight cards and they're usually on with who is fighting who. It usually only changes if someone gets injured or the UFC decides to move it to another card like they have been moving fights of late. Yahoo has a nice MMA section because they use mmaweekly and mmajunkie. for a chance to chat with some mma fighters etc, you have to go to the underground. Even joe rogan visits there but it's pretty bad with trolls and jerks. mmatv.com is the site. if you wanna see a fighters record etc, sherdog.com is the best resource IMO but their forums are even more juvenile than the underground. if you know anything about bit torrents.. well they're your mma friend
If you want to learn a little bit about MMA you should make sure you watch season seven of The Ultimate Fighter reality series on Spike TV, starting on April 2nd. The show is going to feature Light Heavyweight Champion Quentin "Rampage" Jackson, the sport's biggest personality, and the number one contender for his title and former The Ultimate Fighter contestant Forrest Griffin. They'll be coaching sixteen middleweight (185-lbs) fighters and the winner of the tournament gets a UFC contract.
Penn for Life!!!!! I'm a huge Penn fan! Watch all his fights! He's fought as heavy as 205 down all the way to 155. I think he'll rule the 155 division.
only guy I can see beating Penn is Sherk because he's got such strong wrestling he COULD hold penn down and he's strong enough and experienced enough to get out of most submissions too. Penn is motivated though and if he's serious then everyone is in serious trouble. until he faces GSP.. then he's toast.
