He, and the people who advise him, can't be ignorant of the difficulty it is to trade him and Carter. While its purely my speculation, it could be that he's planting seeds of discontent in order to force some kind of action by Thorn. Knowing Ratner's M.O as well, it could be that they expect action to be done, but it won't be a trade; I'm thinking along the lines of getting rid of Frank (also my wishful thinking). If so, it wouldn't be the first time he's done this before.
Is this even news anymore? He basically does this every year, and it ends up being just a way to keep Rod on his toes, and to make sure he's always exploring ways to make the team better. Anyone with a brain knows how close to impossible it is to trade star players with massive contracts, especially mid-season, especially when the player only wants to play on like 3 or 4 teams and would rather stay put instead of going to a bad team. Next to impossible to accommodate that. Which "contender" is going to blow up their team to get Kidd? lol, please. It's a fantasy. He is probably the most untradeable guy on the roster. Plus, I think I would cry for a week if Thorn ever got rid of him for scraps. Trade Carter. Or Magloire. Or Boki. Or just wait for Krstic to come back. Or just wait till we win a few games and all is well again.
as someone else said- does it matter if we lose with Kidd or Marcus as our starter? clear up space. get alot of youth/picks, and wait for Lebron to become available on our move to Brooklyn.

The Nets do not have a player like Dwight Howard. A player that almost assures that things will get better each year. The Nets state is really ummmmm let's just keep it real. The Nets are really fucked up. You have three players Jefferson Carter and Kidd. Players who are great but have not worked. I'm not talking about the team has not worked to win or compete for a chip but has not even worked to be a competitive team. A couple wins does not heal all wins. Remember the nets won a few games before going on this skid. Krstic is not the answer. Honestly I don't know what the answer is but trading carter mag or anyone else but kidd will not save this team. Also anyone can be traded.
Just move him already and let the franchise move on. I appreciate everything he has done for the team, and its a lot, but the Nets have gone as far as they can with this group.
I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas and Cleveland will be the main suspects. Both of them want a true PG and more confidence on their respective squads.
What if we don't get a PG back for him. Im not ready to trust Marcus yet especially with his horrible defense. Damon Stoudemire just got bought out or something yesturday I'm not sure if its b/c he wants to retire or not but that would be a good pick up to me
I also think it's ridiculous that there's a lot of trade talk about the players but there's not talk about possibly getting a new coach.

It will be a sad day, but it will one that is inevitable nonetheless. As for what the Nets get back for him. I'd prefer young talent and draft picks. I would love a combination from the Lakers of Farmar and or Crittenton, maybe Turiaf or possibly Lamar Odom, if he indeed is having problems with the Lakers. We could also possibly take on Kwame Brown's expiring contract.
