We need to get a REAL all-star down here! Or Either Marvin Williams or Josh Smith should be the focal point of our offense.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Lavalamp @ Jan 27 2008, 08:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Wasn't he good with the Suns?</div> He was playing with Nash, so you know. Why does Johnson suck? I don't follow the Hawks, so I'm pretty clueless.
He's been inconsistent all year! There's times where you don't even notice the guy! He got owned today by Brandon Roy on offense and defense. In fact star players from most of our opponents have made Joe their *****! the time has come(sooner than i expected) that Marvin Williams and Josh Smith have surpass Joe. Until Joe admits to himself that he's better off as the third option not the first, Hawks can't take that next step.
How does someone averaging 22/4/5 suck? And I don't see where you see inconsistency. Looking at his stats, he's pretty consistent with his scoring, almost always in double figures and in the 20s for a good chunk of it. And as for either of those either guys as your main guy, not going to happen. Marvin Williams, while getting better, still isn't quite ready to lead the team. And as much as I love Josh Smith, he still relies a bit too heavily on athletic ability as opposed to basketball skills. He has come a very long way and has developed into one hell of a player, but he still doesn't have a consistent jump shot, something he needs to work on if he's ever going to be a focal point of any offense. And you whine about Joe being inconsistent, have you watched Josh Smith. Prior to today (which he was 8/13) he had gone a combined 17/51 in his previous three. So you can whine about it all you want, but the fact is that Joe Johnson is still the most complete offensive player you guys have and is still your best option offensively.
Dude..you cannot come to a conclusion by stats alone, watch a game. If you watch a Hawks game, i'll promise you, that there will be a long strech where you don't even notice Joe. Last 6 games 4-16 8-18 12-26 5-17 4-12 9-24 Than you add he's shooting 39% from three point range. Than you look at someone like Brandon Roy making Joe's his *****! Remember we gave this guy a 70 million contract, and gave away two first round draft picks. josh Smith is way more reliable in crunch time than Joe, he actually plays like he wants to win. he migth be off in the first 3 quarters, but in the 4th he makes sure to turn it on.
I kind of see your point. Both times the Raps have faced Atlanta, I've noticed the team has not had a difficult time shutting him down or at least limiting him. Part of the reason is that he forces it when teams pay a lot of attention on him. I'm not sure if that's a problem with Johnson or the coach's gameplan, because the Hawks have enough talented scorers to play off him when teams double.

Next, you're looking too much into the points that he scores. Take last game for example. He may not have shot the ball well (which everyone is bound to have a bad night), but he he was still able to manage 19pts and get 7rbds and 6asts. Game before that, again, not a lot for points but got 6rbs and 7asts. And hey, why don't you look at the previous Portland game. 37/4/7 was the statline off an efficient 12/26 from the floor. I guess the point I'm making is that you're making a huge deal out of him scoring. Who cares if he gets outscored by his opponent. You can contribute in other ways, and he's been doing that all year. And just throwing it out there, you can't blame one player for choking on an 18 point lead. Blowing a lead like that is a team effort, not just because of one player.
Stop using stats for your argument, the fact is, he doesn't show up when we need him the most. he's very disinterested out there. His body language says, I wanna get my 20pts and get the hell out of here. Josh SMith, Marvin Williams, Al horford, Anthony Johnson, Josh Childress they play to win. There out there working there butts off, but for nothing, because in crunch time "the man" is supposed to be taking the important shots.

As it is, I'm just trying to point out that he does more than what you think. Apparently you think he needs to score 25+ per night and shoot 40%+ from the arc in order to be effective. I'm just saying that he does more than what you notice, and apparently you don't seem to realize that.
I don't care how much he score, act you want to be out there! Don't disappear at crunch time, that not what we gave him a $70 millions contract for.
And what makes you think he doesn't want to be out there? Every player goes through a stage where they might look disinterested. Hell, if he's that much of a distraction or that horrid of a player, the front office would have trade him by now. Plus, just because he looks disinterested, doesn't mean he is. Until you can get in his head, you really have no legit proof of this.
They're 1:00 minute to go, and it's a tie game, you can atleast look like you want to win! You don't see Brandon Roy just standing around, just waiting for someone to give you the ball.
Last year Joe Johnson was shooting 47% FG%, 38% from 3, and putting up 25 ppg. I didn't see any Hawk games, but those look like nice numbers. When he was in Phoenix I remember him shooting really efficient, hitting 3s, and being the teams best defender.
I saw the end of that game 3 times. No picks, no moving around from teammates. JJ was basically running around, with nowhere to go. He couldn't even get open. His decision-making skills at the end of the game were awful. While I wouldn't say that he sucks, I will confirm that he is not clutch at all. That's why you should get guys like Lue and Stoudamire out on the floor, for a catch & shoot. On the other end of the floor, Brandon Roy took advantage of having greater quickness than who was guarding him (JJ?), and easily got to the basket. Help defense didn't even come around quick enough. Seems to me your coach simply sucks, and Roy/McMillan outsmarted the Hawks.
Everybody knows Woodson sucks, that's no excuse. Mike Brown isn't the greatest of coaches, but Lebron manages.
LeBron is also a much better talent than JJ. He's stronger, quicker, etc. I honestly don't see how you can compare the two.
I wasn't comparing the two, I was saying they both have crappy coaches, but one delivers and one doesn't.
