<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'> Kidd Denies Trade Request January 27, 2008, 11:01 pm In talking with beat reporters before the Minnesota game, Jason Kidd said his agent had not asked the Nets for a trade to a contender. “Not to my knowledge,” said Kidd when asked if Jeff Schwartz had asked the Nets to trade him. Kidd added that he had not spoken with Schwartz. “Yeah, I want to be here,” he added. Rod Thorn had no comment on the report in Sunday’s Star-Ledger. Kidd denies trade request...sort of - Julian Garcia - The Inter-Nets</div>
Also of note: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Nets president Rod Thorn wouldn’t comment on the issue directly, but we can tell you that he didn’t seem to be in the greatest of moods, which is understandable because right now his team stinks. They’ve lost eight in a row and are out of the playoff picture right now. Thorn’s most interesting comment came when he was asked if he felt all of his players wanted to play for the team. Here’s what he said: “I think how they perform on the court indicates whether that is true or not true.”</div>
Kidd's statement was taken before the Minny game, so...yeah. I'm guessing he did ask for a trade, but its not like he's going to let the public know. Would ruin his image.
It's not Thorn to blame, it's the stupid money hoes up top that are killing this franchise. When will they learn?
It seems so hard to tell, but I guess the rumour he wanted to be traded was just a rumour. On the other hand that he didn't ask his agent to be traded is straight from his mouth. Kidd wants to be here.
Honestly, I posted this article while thinking that Jason was just putting damage control on public relations. I mean, could he confirm that rumor? No way. He'll work behind the scenes but he wouldn't come right out and say he wants out. This reminds me back to how he said he didn't ask for the extension, yet confirmed it on the radio show a couple days later. I think he wants out, or he wants to see a change that makes the Nets a contender. That's not really that far fetched; who would want to play on the Nets right now?
I think he wants the Nets to become contenders, but even if they don't immediately become one, he wants to be here, which is what he said. A net until he retires?
It's time to move on. Kidd is no longer happy with the Nets. It's time for Thorn to get the best deal possible for Kidd and start the rebuilding process. Jason Kidd should have been dealt earlier. Stop the bleeding now. Enough damage has been done after signing Vince Carter to a ridiculous contract. It's time to cut losses.
I'm not an econ major for a reason, but if I remembered one thing out of my first econ class it was not to take 'sunk costs' into considerations when making a decision.

An objective decision shouldn't concern how much you paid for it. Yeah we overpaid for Carter, but just because he's signed to a bad contract doesn't mean we should give up on the team. If you want to, there are a couple of other reasons to do so
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Kidd is not exactly being treated like a pariah, but word spread quickly among his teammates about his trade request -- even though the team deliberately didn't pass out the daily press clips -- and one teammate found it odd that he was seen eating breakfast alone yesterday at the team's hotel. "That was a first," the player said. Kidd initially refused comment when asked about his trade request, then denied that he or Jeff Schwartz made one -- though he also claimed he hadn't spoken to his agent because, no kidding, "he's traveling." The Nets' captain, of course, has been caught manipulating the truth before, most recently about his contract extension</div> Dave D is more skeptical
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE ("Dave D")</div><div class='quotemain'>Thorn, meanwhile, is in a tough spot. He would prefer to trade Vince Carter, according to GMs around the league, but Carter's contract is very unappealing.</div> His contract, that he signed all of 6 months ago, is unappealing? Seriously? That fast? You mean that we were bidding against no other teams, and we still overpaid? Seriously, that's some Scott Layden shit right there.

He would never admit to anything, because the media would go nuts with it. And then if nothing ends up happening, it all just looks stupid. So it's best to just keep it quiet. Same as last year... he would have been fine with the Laker trade, but he ended up as a Net and things worked out fine and he had a good time. All I know is that nothing even remotely good will come out of a Kidd trade. The Bergen Record talks about some Diop, Devean George, and Stackhouse trade. It all just sounds like a pathetic nightmare. For years I've always imagined Kidd retiring here, with a brilliant legacy. I never thought of him leaving on a horrible and bitter note for Desagana Diop and Devean George. I am trying not to hurl. This can't happen. There are literally no other options except blowing up the franchise? There just has to be other options. I'm sure at least someone on this team other than Kidd has trade value.

This barely sounds like a "I want to be traded quote." It seems so vague, and hard to interpret what it actually means. If he said "It's time for me to move on, then I'd say "yep, Kidd wants to be traded." <span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%">Kidd said "It's time for <u>us all </u>to move on."</span> From the context did he mean "My TDs didn't do it this time, lets get over this loss, and focus on the next game?"
Well since he came out today and said he does want to be traded, I think that would settle that ambiguity :-(
